Privacy Notice Ed Balls was seen ‘fighting back tears’ on Thursday’s episode of Good Morning Britain during an interview with TikTok star Jessie Davies – known online as Mimidarlingbeauty. During the interview, Ranvir Singh and Ed spoke to Jessie about her viral video in which she ordered some food from a drive thru, which was seen over 70 million times. Jessie told the hosts how she was ‘in a dark place’ at the time with her speech as well as her mental health while recording the video. She then decided to upload it on to TikTok, as she explained she ‘never thought’ she would get so much love and support she did.

Ed, who also suffers from a stammer, could be seen getting emotional while Jessie was talking about her journey, from her speech therapy as a child, to getting rejected at job interviews, as he could be heard telling the star how much of an inspiration she was. “For people that have a stammer, you give them confidence. If Jessie can do it I can too and it’s so important you’re doing this, I think it’s inspirational,” Ed said, visibly emotional. “I just wanted to be the woman that I needed to see as a little girl,” Jessie responded. “Because I never saw anyone in the media apart from Gareth Gates.” The former MP has previously opened up about his struggles with his stammer, and in 2023, thanked Gareth Gates during a GMB interview for being an inspiration to him. You inspired me, you really did. I thought ‘If Gareth Gates can do this, I can too’.

“‘And if he can be public, I can be public’ – and it was really hard but I did it because you showed me how to do it,” he said, fighting back tears at the time. Jessie then continued to thank Ed for ‘representing the community’. “I just wanted to say thank you to yourself because you represent the community as well, and it means the world to us,” as Ed tried to fight back the tears. “That you’re a presenter, I think that’s incredible and that you’re so inspiring, so thank you so much for doing what you do.” Fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter to comment on how well Ed and Ranvir handled the interview. One wrote: “What an amazing lady massive shout out to @edballs too for being brave talking about his problem and owning it” Another said: “@edballs true gent in that interview.
