More infoJoin us on WhatsApp In a sudden turn during the Good Morning Britain programme, Boris Johnson made a swift departure amidst his conversation with hosts Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid. Susanna couldn’t hide her excitement about possibly interviewing the former prime minister. She cheekily suggested to entertainment correspondent Richard Arnold that she might have to cut into his segment if Boris Johnson joined their show. The ex-Conservative leader made an unexpected appearance live from Kyiv during Good Morning Britain, coinciding with the three-year commemoration of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Susanna wasted no time in diving into the interview, asking: “This is a bit of surprise that you’ve turned up in Kyiv. It’s a big day, of course, because world leaders are having this call about what to do about Ukraine. What do you think should happen?” Mr Johnson was quick to clarify the situation concerning Ukraine, stating emphatically: “It’s total rubbish. Ukraine is the victim,” as reported by the Express.

He also gave a hint about the near completion of a significant minerals deal between the United States and Ukraine. “That commits the US not only to future financing of Ukraine but also to a free, sovereign, and secure Ukraine under Donald Trump,” he continued. “That is not to be sneezed at, it’s a very important commitment.” Yet, after touching on a further topic, he had to cut the conversation short, saying, “Anyways, I’ve got to love you and leave you.” Richard seemed eager to keep Mr Johnson a little longer, probing him with: “As a former prime minister, how do you deal with an American president who says that black is white. How do you talk to him?”

Mr Johnson emphasised the importance of persistence by stating you “have to keep knocking the ball back over the net” and described the situation as “crazy stuff” but encouraged examining the actual proposals, asserting: “This is crazy stuff but you’ve got to look at what is actually being proposed and when you look at the potential of the agreement, I think it’s positive for Ukraine.” “I’ve got to go,” he added before walking off the screen. As he detached himself from the interview gear and left the frame, Susanna commented: “Thank you very much indeed for your time this morning. Just disentangling himself from our microphone and off he goes.” Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
