Privacy NoticeGood Morning Britain’s Richard Madeley sparked a viewer backlash after questioning whether it was time to move on from Prince Andrew’s involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. Back on our screens this Monday (26 August), Richard joined Charlotte Hawkins and delved into a mix of political news with Kwasi Kwarteng and Nells Abbey before turning their attention to Prince Andrew. The discussion was prompted by news that a photo from Prince Andrew’s infamous 2019 Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis is being considered by the National Gallery. Richard posed the question: “Is it time to lay off Prince Andrew? “.

He also recounted how Prince Andrew had naively commented after the interview, “Well, that went rather well, didn’t it? ” highlighting the Duke’s obliviousness to the damage he had done to his own reputation. However, as soon as Richard floated the idea of easing up on Prince Andrew, viewers took to Twitter to express their outrage, with comments like: “Can’t believe Madeley saying is it time to lay off Prince Andrew, cut him a bit of slack! ! ! ! No! ! Switched off! ” filling the social media platform, reports the Mirror. Another user criticized the show by stating, “Mainstream British media always try and justify or make excuses for Prince Andrew. Just because he denied the allegations against him there is also the possibility the allegations are true and that is why his mum paid millions to his accuser”. A third added their dismay: “Richard Madeley is insufferable. ‘We should be giving Prince Andrew a break’.” These concerns were echoed by another individual: “Lay off Prince Andrew? Really? Nah.”

Many slammed Richard for his comments during the show and claimed they had ‘switched off’

This sentiment was further supported with: “Richard Madeley really is a jerk if he thinks that we should cut Prince Andrew some slack.” Meanwhile, tensions don’t seem to ease as Prince Andrews clash with King Charles III remains unresolved, with ongoing disputes about the Dukes residence at Royal Lodge. The controversial son of Queen Elizabeth II makes his home in the extensive 30-room property in Windsor which apparently demands urgent repairs. Sharing the mansion with his former spouse Sarah Ferguson, he seems unwilling to let go of the estate – despite being offered Frogmore Cottage nearby, which had a £2.4million makeover in 2019. The Royal has been finding it tough to maintain Royal Lodge as he’s obligated to “repair, renew, uphold, clean and keep in repair and, where necessary, rebuild” the mansion, as per the 75-year lease agreement given to him in 2003 by the Crown Estate.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
