Privacy NoticeTV legend Trisha Goddard has opened up about her ongoing battle with terminal cancer, and why she chose to keep her diagnosis under wraps for such an extended period. Earlier in the year, Trisha revealed that she is once again facing cancer after initially being diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2008. Sadly, this time the disease has re-emerged in her right hip and as secondary breast cancer. Although treatable, it is sadly incurable. During her appearance on Thursday 8 August’s edition of Good Morning Britain, the presenter, aged 66, had a heartfelt conversation with hosts Kate Garraway and Ed Balls about her current health situation. On being asked about her choice to maintain privacy around her health struggles, Trisha said: “I was grappling with how to deal with it myself. Plus, I just wanted to work and be me. With CNN and my colleagues there, they didn’t know that I had no hair, that I had no feeling in my legs.” Trisha confirmed that these were side effects from the treatments she was undergoing, disclosing that she had been receiving chemotherapy every week for four and a half months. Questioned on how she’s coping now, Trisha admitted she’s adapting to what she calls her new normal, which includes treatment sessions every three weeks. Trisha also detailed that her medical regimen began immediately after her wedding day, meaning her honeymoon was put on hold for two years. Despite her circumstances, the brave presenter insisted that she doesn’t want to become the “poster girl” for cancer”, reports the Mirror. In conversation with Kate Garraway and Ed Balls, Trisha shared her views on the language used to describe those with chronic illnesses: “It’s not who I am, it’s what I’m living with. Coming back to people with chronic illnesses, I think we do them a disservice when we use words like ‘brave’, ‘champion’ and ‘hero’ because they just want to grasp the life they have.”

As their talk came to an end, Kate announced that Trisha will be stepping into the GMB spotlight next week as a guest presenter. Fans of the show can expect to see Trisha taking over on Tuesday and Wednesday, giving Susanna Reid a well-deserved break for her summer holidays. Trisha confessed that being interviewed on GMB had made her nervous: “I’m not normally nervous, I have to say, but that bit [presenting next week], I’m not nervous about but this bit [being interviewed], I’ve been shaking like a chihuahua.” Kate appeared surprised by Trisha’s admission and asked if her nerves were because of her and Ed, but Trisha assured her that wasn’t the case. Ed then chimed in, highlighting how different it must feel for Trisha being interviewed instead of conducting interviews herself: “Trisha is used to doing the interviewing, she’s not so used to being on the other side, is that right?” Trisha replied modestly: “Maybe! But also it’s about talking about really personal stuff and this is my life, I’m in the middle of it.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
