A staggering 20 million viewers tuned in to witness Smithy and Nessa tie the knot, but the festive cheer didn’t stop there. On New Year’s Day, the BBC treated viewers to Gavin and Stacey: A Fond Farewell, a one-hour special documentary that offered an exclusive peek behind the scenes of the show’s concluding episodes. Yet, despite the seemingly definitive ending, some fans are holding out hope for another reunion. However, Joanna Page, who stars as Stacey Shipman, has given her take on the matter, and it looks like it’s time for fans to let go.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain with hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley, Joanna was asked the burning question: “Is it the final?” to which she replied with a conclusive “it is.” She went on to explain: “I’ve always before now always said ‘no there’s going to be more’ but this is the first and only ever time I’ve been able to say ‘yes that is it.'” A clearly disheartened Richard probed further, prompting Joanna to add, “I think, just from sensing from Ruth [Jones] and James [Corden] and them saying it is the finale. Definitely, that is it.” However, she joked Larry Lamb would have a different answer. “Larry always says ‘oh there’ll be more’ but I 100% think that is it. I think it’s lovely though that Ruth and James have left it the way that it is and I think it was such a lovely ending,” revealing her affection for the way the creators wrapped things up, reports the Mirror.

But it’s not farewell to Joanna just yet. The star is embarking on a new adventure with Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans. Their upcoming program, Wynne and Joanna: All at Sea, promises to be quite the escapade as they reconnect with their Welsh roots and take on sailing, despite Joanna’s light-hearted admission that they might be ‘utterly useless’. Previously speaking about the new venture, Joanna said: “To be honest it was quite life changing filming the series, it was brilliant having such freedom, getting to go off on a boat with a really good friend of mine and just be free. “I had no responsibilities other than not crashing Wynne’s boat, but it was a chance to sort of go back to the old me and rediscover myself again.”
