Fans are eagerly awaiting the return of her character Nessa as well as Smithy, played by James Corden, after both stars were seen on Barry Island near Cardiff. The excitement reached fever pitch when James shared a photo of Smithy’s van earlier this week, teasing the upcoming reunion episode. Now, more behind-the-scenes photos have emerged, featuring Ruth in full Nessa attire, even driving a rickshaw! Dressed in her iconic black leather gilet and mini skirt, complete with her Welsh dragon tattoo, the Cardiff-born actress looked right at home. James also seemed to be enjoying himself as he strolled along the Victorian promenade on the island, just outside the Welsh capital, sporting a lilac anorak, and Joanna Page, who plays Stacey, was also on set.

Fans have been counting down the days since the show’s return was confirmed earlier this summer. There haven’t been any new episodes of the popular BBC sitcom since the last special aired in 2019, but the comeback was finally announced in May, reports the Mirror. It was then revealed in July that the script had been finalised and now, the beloved gang has started filming. On Monday 2 September, James Corden, whose character Smithy is expected to tie the knot with Nessa, teased fans on social media ahead of the show’s return. The 46 year old shared a behind-the-scenes snap, building excitement among fans. James posted a photo of the side of Smithy’s work van, which read: “Smithy’s: if your husband won’t do it I will… Tilin, roofin, plasterin, and feng shui. Fans had some fun with the star on Instagram, with one commenting: “Smithster is back! ! Don’t forget to mention the air fryer for Uncle Bryn.” Another fan said: “This is the best picture I’ve ever seen in my life” while a third posted: “Can’t wait to hear Nessa recall her trucking days with Oasis.”

The BBC comedy, which originally aired from 2007 to 2010, made a comeback in 2019 with a Christmas special, but left fans with more questions than answers after ending on a cliffhanger as Nessa proposed to Smithy but viewers didn’t get to hear his reply.
