Privacy NoticeJames Corden has spilled the beans that he and Ruth Jones have finally put the finishing touches on the script for the much-anticipated final episode of Gavin And Stacey. The 45 year old former chat show king shared the exciting news that he and his fellow creator Ruth, 57, were working on a final comeback episode in May, confirming that fans of the hit sitcom are in for a treat with its Christmas return. The series, which originally graced our screens from 2007 to 2010, made a smashing comeback in 2019 with a Christmas special that left viewers hanging as Nessa (portrayed by Jones) dramatically proposed to Smithy (played by Corden). Chatting with Chris Evans on his Virgin Radio breakfast show, James confessed: “We finished a script a while back and it was too long… rewrites are harder than any writing.” He opened up about the challenges of rewriting, saying, “Rewriting is really difficult. Writing is really fun, because you can just go ‘anything can happen.'” Sign up to OK’s TV newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

“But when you rewrite stuff, you’re dealing with a lot of logistics and ‘well look we might not be able to shoot that, or this needs to be in this location, is there any way this can change?’ And frankly, it’s too long.” James revealed that they’ve been working hard to trim the script down: “So really what we have been doing the last few weeks really is just trying to make it as economical as possible. And we finished it (the script) yesterday.” An emotional James reflected on the end of an era, telling Chris how sentimental the process has been for him, especially considering his close bond with Ruth. He said: “We’ve finished writing, we will never write anything that Pam (Alison Steadman’s character) says again..”

“And we will never come up with an interesting thing that Bryn (Rob Brydon’s character) has done. And we just looked at each other and we were just like, ‘Ah, isn’t that amazing?’ To even have the luxury of deciding to end it and to be in a position where people still care.” “It’s inconceivable to us all of it. I just feel very emotional by all of it. Everything.” The actor, who is known for his stint on The Late Late Show from 2015 to 2023, is currently treading the boards in a West End play, The Constituent, alongside Motherland star Anna Maxwell Martin. Earlier this month, he made headlines when he delayed the start of the performance to binge-watch England’s heart-stopping penalty shootout with Switzerland in the Euro 2024 quarter-final.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
