Heartbreak grips the Sinise family as they come to terms with the sudden passing of Gary Sinise’s beloved son, McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise, at the tender age of 33.
Gary, known for his iconic roles on screen and his philanthropic endeavors off-screen, took to the Gary Sinise Foundation’s website and his Instagram page to share the devastating news of Mac’s battle with cancer, which tragically came to an end on January 5.
In a poignant statement, Gary revealed that Mac had been courageously fighting a rare form of cancer known as Chordoma since August 8, 2018. This news struck the family hard, especially as it followed closely on the heels of Gary’s wife, Moira Harris, receiving her own diagnosis of stage three breast cancer.
Despite facing unimaginable health challenges, Mac remained resilient, pouring his passion into music and contributing his talents as an assistant manager of education and outreach at the Gary Sinise Foundation. As a drummer, he shared the stage with his father in the Lt. Dan Band, showcasing his musical prowess and indomitable spirit.
A graduate of the University of Southern California, Mac’s love for music never waned, even in the face of adversity. Paralyzed from the chest down due to multiple spine surgeries, he continued to pursue his creative endeavors, culminating in the completion of his album “Resurrection & Revival” just before his passing.
In his heartfelt tribute, Gary expressed the profound pain of losing a child, acknowledging the shared grief of all who have experienced similar loss. Despite their sorrow, the Sinise family finds solace in knowing that Mac is finally free from his suffering, leaving behind a legacy of courage and resilience.
Mac’s memory lives on through his family, who remain steadfast in their commitment to honor his life and legacy. Gary plans to release Mac’s album, “Mac Sinise: Resurrection and Revival,” on vinyl, ensuring that his son’s music continues to touch hearts and inspire others.
In the wake of this tragic loss, Gary’s unwavering love and admiration for his son shine through, serving as a beacon of hope and resilience for all who knew Mac.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sinise family during this difficult time.
Love and Peace
