Privacy NoticeGary Lucy has given The Bill fans false hope of a comeback for the classic police show after posting a teaser video to social media – but it turned out to be a recruitment ad for Western Australia Police Force. The Hollyoaks star spent five years on the police drama as PC Will Fletcher until its cancellation in 2010, so when he shared a clip of him back in his Met uniform, his followers went wild at the prospect of a Bill reboot. However, Gary, 42, actually turned out to have teamed up with the Aussie police force for a recruitment drive to tempt UK police Down Under. In a video that looked very much like a teaser for a new series of former ITV cop show The Bill, Gary was dressed as his former character Will and going about his duties in grey and unfriendly UK streets.

He was shown getting a text telling him to move to Perth and take advantage of sunnier climes as well as a warmer attitude towards officers. Instagram followers then saw Will packing his swimming shorts and walking along an idyllic white sand beach in his uniform. The actor had actually teamed up with Western Australia Police Force for their latest recruitment drive in the UK, which previously hit headlines last year for its campaign to poach UK police with the promise of better weather and better pay. Gary wrote: “New role for a new police force… who fancies heading Down Under? If it works for the real UK coppers leaving for better weather and better pay, I can see why this copper’s tempted! @‌wa_police anything he should pack?”

But even with the video caption, many of his fans still missed that it was not a new TV series promo as one commented: “Is this a new programme…loved watching The Bill back in the day.” Someone else wrote: “Can’t wait to watch it,” as another person added: “Oooh can’t wait for this,” and a third fan agreed: “I’ll enjoy watching.” Even those who had worked out that a Bill return was not imminent thought it was a great time to start campaigning for a TV comeback.

One person commented: “Is this a hint that The Bill is coming back or am I reading too much into this.” Someone else added: “Haven’t seen Gary in a police uniform for at least 15 years.” Another follower asked: “Return to TV?” One fan told Gary: “We want The Bill London, not The Bill Perth.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
