Privacy NoticeFreddie Flintoff has opened up about his harrowing Top Gear crash that almost put a full-stop to his TV career, nearly halting plans for his thrilling new BBC cricket documentary, Field of Dreams. The star was all set to whisk away his band of cricket novices formed two year prior, on an adventure to India. Yet, in the latest series airing in August, he divulges that this grand tour was on the brink of never happening. Speaking of the crash in December 2022 that required extensive recovery from severe facial injuries, Freddie confesses in episode one that “something happened which changed my life forever.” Described as “the story of the most unlikely cricket tour that almost didn’t happen”, the narration sets the stage for an emotional rollercoaster. In heart-rending scenes, he praises the young cricketers from Preston, proclaiming: “From what I’ve done in my career. You lads are my greatest achievements,” reports the Mirror. With a heartfelt ambition, he expresses his plan to them: “I want to take you on tour. I want to take you to India.” He continues, sharing his vision for the boys: “I want the boys to learn to be outside their comfort zone. I just hope and pray that all the boys take these opportunities – and they grab it with both hands.” Freddie’s accident horrified fans when he was injured while filming Top Gear in 2022 at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome, Surrey. The BBC expressed regret for the incident in March 2023 and settled with Freddie last year, with a reported £9m payout.

This sum didn’t come from TV licence fees as BBC Studios, the show’s producer, operates commercially. The cricket legend recently flaunted his healing scars at a Top Gear screening. Snapped outside London’s posh Charlotte Street Hotel, Freddie looked relaxed in a grey sweatshirt, black shorts, and Crocs. An onlooker remarked: “He looked in great spirits and appeared to be at the hotel with friends who he makes his TV series with. “The scars from his Top Gear crash seem to have improved a lot since the accident and it was great to see him with a smile on his face again. It was like the old Freddie.” Back in March last year, the BBC issued a heartfelt statement regarding Freddie’s accident: “We have sincerely apologised to Freddie and will continue to support him with his recovery.” Acknowledging the halt of the beloved car show, the BBC expressed: “We understand this [halting the show] will be disappointing for fans, but it is the right thing to do, and we’ll make a judgement about how best to continue later this year.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
