Privacy NoticeNineties heartthrob Kavana auditioned for The Voice UK in 2012 in a bid to resurrect his singing career. The I Can Make You Feel Good singer who was 35 years old when he auditioned graced TV screens on the singing competition show and performed a rendition of Don’t Dream It’s Over, originally recorded by Crowded House. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be for poor Kav, as none of the coaches – which at the time was Tom Jones, Will.i.am, Danny O’ Donoghue and Jessie J – turned for the forgotten 90s star and he left during the blind auditions. However, before his exit coach and The Script frontman Danny recognised him and realised they had met before. “I’ve not done this for a long time, so I think the nerves got the better of me.”

“He can really sing,” Danny told the rest of the panel. Looking back to the 90s, Kavana, real name Anthony Kavanagh, was working at McDonald’s when he wowed Take That’s manager with an impromptu demo tape performance, which led to his teenage dreams coming true. He soared to pop stardom, globetrotting, gracing the cover of the iconic Smash Hits magazine, and chilling with the Spice Girls talk about living the dream.

But at the age of 21, Kav swapped the mic for the spotlight of acting, moving stateside to chase Hollywood fame. However it seems it didn’t quite work out as planned as he said on The Voice: “I decided I was going to be an actor and I went to live in America. “And I got an agent, I got a manager and I had a lot of money. I did a few little things here and there but nothing has really got me back on the map. I came back to England and it’s been kind of quiet for me.” While his music career has returned to its 90s heyday, Kavana has appeared on other TV shows in the UK including The Big Reunion in 2013 where he became a part of a band with other popstars Dane Bowers, Gareth Gates, Kenzie and Adam Rickett. However, the group, named 5th story, failed to make it to the big time. Kavana also came 7th on a stint of Celebrity Big Brother in 2015. Personally, Kavana’s had his issues to deal with including battles with addiction and in November 2023 he announced he was celebrating a year of sobriety.
