Privacy NoticeAlmost every move she makes is recorded, but despite more than a decade in the spotlight, it’s almost unheard of for the Princess of Wales to lose her cool. Since marrying Prince William, 42, in 2011, Kate’s calm and professional persona has seen her become a hugely popular member of the Royal Family and a role model for many. It might seem like Kate, also 42, is a model royal who can’t put a foot wrong, but the hardworking mum-of-three is only human and there been a handful of occasions she’s lost her cool in public.

If only to make us mere mortals feel better, we share a few times Kate kept her children in line, averted a crisis – or shot what appeared to be a a scowl at Prince William… The ‘grate’ escape Kate had been married to her prince for two years and was still learning the ropes in terms of representing the Royal family at public engagements when her footwear nearly caused her to come a cropper. Kate and William were visiting the Irish Guards on St Patrick’s Day in 2013 when the heel of one of her four-inch high stilettos got stuck in a grate. The Princess, who was pregnant with Prince George at the time, grabbed hold of William’s arm and yanked the offending footwear free. She then calmly went back to handing out shamrocks to members of the Irish Guards.

Wedding woes Pippa Middleton’s wedding day in 2017 was a big deal for big sister Kate and she was no doubt hoping her children would do her proud by being on their best behaviour. But when Prince George, then aged four, was spotted playing around behind his aunt’s dress and shaking his flower basket, Kate had to offer a few stern words. Little George shed a few tears but the incident was soon over and the smiles returned.

Marilyn moment When you’re photographed as often as Kate is, the chances of a wardrobe malfunction are pretty high. At Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank in 2018, the Princess of Wales had her very own Marilyn Monroe moment. Wearing a stunning fuchsia Alexander McQueen dress, Kate and William left St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle to mingle with the other guests when a gust of wind lifted up the skirt of the dress. Kate could be seen laughing in embarrassment as she battled in vain to keep the dress in place.

Dour Duchess Although Kate’s known for her ready smile and happy laughter, there are times when her displeasure shows. In July 2017, the Waleses were heading to a garden party to mark the Queen’s birthday in the Polish capital Warsaw when Kate was seen cutting a less-than-impressed facial expression. The mum-of-three appeared to scowl at William as they left for the party. It’s not known what caused the ill humour but Prince George and Princess Charlotte were accompanying their parents on the Royal tour, so maybe tiredness was to blame.

Terrible twos It all became a bit too much for Princess Charlotte as the Wales family prepared to board a helicopter during a Royal engagement in Hamburg in 2017. Kate was seen giving her tired-looking daughter gentle encouragement as the then two year old burst into tears. Whatever Kate said seemed to have averted a major tantrum as Charlotte calmly entered the helicopter.
