Privacy NoticeEmmerdale heartthrob Dean Andrews has floored fans with a throwback snap, in which he can be seen sporting a mullet hairstyle. In a photo from 1986, Dean flaunted a mullet while entertaining at a holiday camp. Followers were quick to admire the throwback, with one fan noting “an impressive mullet you have there”. Before becoming a soap star as Emmerdale’s Will Taylor in April 2019, Dean had been wowing audiences with his musical talent for more than twenty years. Born on 6 August, 1963, in Rotherham, Yorkshire, “Deano”, as he’s affectionately called, was scooped up by acclaimed director Ken Loach for his 2001 movie The Navigators, marking his entry into the acting world. But, before stepping foot onto the Dales, he had already hit Albert Square in rival soap EastEnders as the character Dean in 2002, reprising the same role in the TV special EastEnders: Ricky and Bianca that year.

Further elevating his career, Dean has earned credits in a string of other TV favourites including Clocking Off (2003), Casualty, Shameless, The Street, and Silent Witness, reports the Daily Star. His versatility shone through as Pete Lewis in Being Eileen in 2013 and as Robbie from 2012 to 2016 in Last Tango in Halifax. Nevertheless, most fans will fondly remember him as the brash DS Ray Carling in the BBCs smash-hit Life on Mars, stealing scenes alongside John Simm and Philip Glennister from 2006 to 2007, then once again in its sequel Ashes to Ashes with Keeley Hawes from 2008 to 2010.

Dean often treats fans to snapshots of his time with the casts of both shows, including a cheeky behind-the-scenes rendition of Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl, belted out with co-stars Philip Glennister and Marshall Lancaster in the third series of Ashes to Ashes. Another snapshot captures Dean alongside co-star Monseratt Lambard and 80s Spandau Ballet icon Tony Hadley on the Ashes to Ashes set. Meanwhile, in a different scene, Andrews and fellow actor Marshall Lancaster are decked out as Superman and James Bond for a costume party in one of the show’s storylines. Ashes to Ashes also showcased Dean’s singing chops, a skill he honed well before his acting days.

Dean wasn’t always an actor. For two decades, he performed as a singer on cruise ships and at clubs. He once shared a nostalgic 1986 album cover from his singing days on his Instagram, striking a pose in black slacks and a tan leather jacket, titled You to Me are Everything. Off-screen, Dean is a die-hard Rotherham football fan and in 2022, he cycled in a fundraising event for the Rotherham Hospice. The family man is happily married to Helen Bowen-Green, shares his life with their two kids, and recently welcomed granddaughter Ida-Rae in August 2022.
