Privacy NoticeIt’s been a horrific year for Emmerdale’s Belle Dingle, who has been tormented and abused by her husband Tom since marrying in February. However, the ITV soap icon is in for more drama – with stars James Chase and Eden Taylor-Draper teasing the “crazy” twists to come. Speaking to OK! at the Inside Soap Awards, Eden and James revealed that fans can expect Belle’s nightmare to reach new heights. “We’re about to film big stuff, which is exciting,” Eden said. James, who plays Tom on the soap, added: “Big stuff is coming up on screen as well. It’s crazy from this point on. I feel like it changed a bit [for Belle and Tom].

Tom has been tormenting his wife Belle since they married earlier this year

“The vibe has changed in a way where it feels that the conflict between them is different. It’s not as much about Tom abusing her. It’s evolved. I don’t want to say too much.” The on-screen couple said that the reaction from fans to the storyline has been “amazing” over the past year. “Everyone has been so supportive and people are very engrossed in the story,” James said. Eden added: “As it progresses and we focus on different things, different people can relate to them. It’s great that we’re targeting such a wide range of people.” Fans were devastated when Belle’s beloved dog Piper was run over by Tom, who told Belle that she had died from her injuries – when in reality, he had rehomed her a few days later. As for whether Belle will be reunited with Piper, Eden said: “I hope so. Not so much for Belle but for me because I’m obsessed with Minnie [the dog, who plays Piper.] I really hope so.”

While Tom is still tormenting Belle, he has set his sights on Amelia Spencer (Daisy Campbell), with the pair sparking up a relationship despite Belle’s warnings. “It’s different to the way it is with Belle,” James said of Tom’s relationship. “He’s aware of everyone’s opinions of him. He’s not treating Amelia in the same way – it’s a different form of manipulation. He wants somebody on his side.” Daisy added that Amelia is “vulnerable”, which is why Tom has picked her. “She’s so young. She’s so much younger than him, by 10 years. She’s so much more vulnerable. There’s a lot coming,” she said. In recent scenes, Tom was attacked with an axe by Belle after he threatened to kill her. While he told police that he couldn’t remember what happened, he told Belle that he would reveal the truth if she didn’t visit him in hospital. Fans are now certain that Vinny may be falsely accused after the Dingle found Tom presumed dead in the shed. Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
