Emmerdale viewers were left devastated after fan-favourite Amy Wyatt, portrayed by Natalie Ann Jamieson, tragically died on the Yorkshire-based ITV drama last week. In shocking scenes, fans watched as Amy succumbed to her injuries after a horrifying limo accident led to her falling into a frozen lake. Despite being rescued from the freezing waters, she later passed away in hospital, leaving the village and audience in shock. Discussing the dramatic events on Hits Radio West Yorkshire, Natalie Ann shared insights into her dramatic departure, saying: “Two limos going out for a lovely night out, sounds brilliant, but then ooh one swerves to miss a lorry and the other one crashes straight into ice. Into the ice goes Amy Wyatt.”

Natalie also noted the mystery surrounding her character’s fate, saying: “There had been teasers for ages for Emmerdale like going: ‘Who is that hand?’, everybody was going: ‘Well, it’s definitely a man’s hand!’ and I was like: ‘Hm, definitely a man’s hand! ‘… it was me all along!”, reports Leeds Live. However, presenter Rosie Madison questioned a plot hole, saying: “Can I just say when we were watching, we were shouting at the telly because there was a few things that we’ve all been trained that if you ever fell through ice. One… you never walk on ice but two if you ever fell through you take your clothes off, you strip down!”

Natalie couldn’t help but giggle as she said: “Yep! I was sodden, do you know what though? I just don’t know that they would have let us do that at 7:30pm at night! I did say do you want me to”, sending the studio into laughter. It comes after Natalie was visibly emotional as she reflected on her character’s intense exit from the ITV soap, while appearing on Lorraine last week. The episode the night before had seen Amy meet her tragic end in hospital after her harrowing plunge into the icy lake following the limo crash, which also claimed the lives of villagers Suzy and Leyla.

Reflecting on the scene brought tears to Natalie’s eyes as she told host Christine Lampard: “It was very traumatic. We watched it in the hotel because I knew I was coming here this morning. It was a very, very sad episode.” She mused over Amy’s dramatic departure: “It wasn’t to be for Amy, but what a way to go! What an episode, what an exit”, and revealed how long she’d been aware of her looming exit from the show: “I’ve known for a long, long time, but I just think it’s so special.” Natalie highlighted the magic of keeping story twists secret: “So when you don’t have spoilers for things like this, and when it comes as a surprise for the audience, and they get to watch it in real-time, there’s just something magical about it, so I was really keen to try and keep it under wraps.”
