Privacy NoticeEmmerdale star Oliver Farnworth has opened up about his partner Samantha Womack’s breast cancer battle this week in a heartfelt chat on ITV’s Lorraine with Christine Lampard. Host Christine delicately broached the subject of Samantha’s health, and Oliver, known for his role as Andy Sugden in the soap, couldn’t help but express his awe at the former Eastenders star’s strength throughout her treatment. “She’s doing incredibly well,” he shared, before affectionately adding, “I’m in awe of her,” blowing a kiss to the camera in tribute to Samantha – who revealed she was free of breast cancer in December 2022. Oliver also took the opportunity to encourage women to be vigilant and regularly check for any signs of breast abnormalities. “She’s been so kind of strong and determined through it,” he added – remembering how her diagnosis came about during a routine check-up, despite her not having any symptoms. Oliver went on to share their lucky break of catching the disease early, explaining: “And we were very lucky because they detected quite a high grade of cancer and were able to deal with that quite quickly but she then went through the chemo and the radiotherapy.” He also highlighted her resilience in managing her final radio session, moving house, and performing in a West End show, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, all while undergoing treatment.

In a bid to raise awareness, Oliver stressed the importance of attending routine checks and urged women to be vigilant for any signs at home. His girlfriend’s cancer was fortunately detected as part of a routine check. The couple, both celebrated actors, sparked their romance in 2019 after co-starring in ‘The Girl On The Train’ on London’s West End stage. While Samantha’s fight against breast cancer began in August 2022. Opening up about her fears of the cancer returning, Samantha told OK! in 2022: “It’s weird because you’re cancer-free… for now. Anyone that’s had cancer will know that it will always be something you have to consider may come back at some point.

“I don’t have it at the moment, but at the same time I don’t ever want to be in denial about the fact that cancer cells are really clever at multiplying, they find a way round.” She continued: “It would be crazy to say it’s not a thought that lives in your everyday brain, but it’s how that voice affects you. The truth is none of us know [what will happen]. “You just have no idea where you’re going to be in 10 years’ time. To focus on worrying would be a waste of the time I’ve got.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
