Privacy NoticeEastEnders favourite Jonny Freeman looks completely different from his character Reiss Colwell in real life and fans are stunned at how unrecognisable he is. Reiss has made quite the impression since he arrived to Albert Square when residents said goodbye to Dot Branning back in 2022 as the dowdy accountant wearing heavy knitted cardigans and his glasses. Fans of the long-running BBC soap opera will know Reiss joined the cast as a nephew of Dot – played by the late June Brown – and has formed a relationship with Sonia Jackson, played by Natalie Cassidy. Since his arrival to Walford, Reiss and Sonia decided they would like to try for a baby through IVF, due to Reiss being unable to conceive. Along the way he’s caused plenty of drama, but fans cannot get over how different the actor looks in his real life. Let’s take a look…

On screen, Reiss and Sonia have faced a rollercoaster journey trying to conceive, hindered by Reiss’ infertility issues. In a heart-wrenching plot twist last year, it was disclosed that Reiss’ wife had been left in a long-term coma. Sonia and Reiss embarked on IVF, however, Sonia was oblivious to the fact that Reiss had stolen funds from his wife Debbie’s account to pay for it. Reiss was confronted with an £18,000 bill for his wife Debbie’s care fees. Yet, fortune seemed to smile on him when Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) proposed he manage her finances. But away from Albert Square, Jonny is almost unrecognisable from his on-screen alter-ego as he doesn’t wear glasses or have a receding hairline.

A third offered their opinion to EastEnders bosses, suggesting they shouldn’t have strayed too far from his usual looks, typing: “Very handsome, should have kept him like that.” Apart from EastEnders, fans may also recognise Jonny from a fair few other big shows. In the past, the actor has made appearances in Channel 4’s Top Boy and BBC’s Silent Witness. On top of this, he also had a stint in medical drama Holby City back in 2010, plus other roles between 2009 and 2014. This included appearances in Bloods, Dalziel and Pascoe and playing Frank London in M.I. High.
