EastEnders devotees are bracing themselves for heart-wrenching scenes next week as the funeral of Martin Fowler looms. Martin met a tragic end during the soap’s 40th-anniversary live episode last month when he fell victim to the Queen Vic explosion. In the hospital after delivering her baby girl Julia, Sonia Fowler was seen in a poignant scene phoning their daughter Bex Fowler to break the news of her father’s death. Next week will see the return of Bex, who exited the show in 2020 to globe-trot, as she comes back to the Square to attend her dad’s funeral.

In moving scenes, Bex reunites with her distressed mum, who is grappling with the dual challenges of caring for her newborn while mourning ex-partner Martin and coming to terms with the actions and death of her murderous fiancé Reiss Colwell. But Bex won’t be the only familiar face making a comeback. The upcoming week will also mark the return of Martin’s niece Vicki Fowler, who will be stepping foot on the Square after a hiatus of two decades. Vicki won’t be returning alone, though, as she’ll be accompanied by her new beau Ross and son Joel, reports the Mirror.

Vicki bid farewell to Albert Square in 2004 when she jetted off to Australia with her partner Spencer Moon to run a bar. However, her return without Spencer suggests she’s harbouring some secrets, as locals including Spencer’s brother Alfie are taken aback to see her with a new man. As far as they know, Vicki and Spencer are still together, but it seems she has some significant news to share. Vicki finds herself under the spotlight as Alfie and Kat probe her about Spencer’s whereabouts and their breakup, and it doesn’t take long for the truth to surface…. In a recent announcement, fans were thrilled to learn that Vicki Fowler would be making a comeback to the soap. However, there’s been a casting shake-up with Alice Haig stepping into the role previously played by Scarlett Alice Johnson. Alice couldn’t contain her excitement about joining the show, saying: “I am so excited. I have always watched the show, and I was born in February 1985, so I’m the same age as EastEnders! It’s so cool to be playing a character like Vicki – we think we know her, but a lot has changed. I can’t wait for all the Albert Square drama ahead.” Viewers might recognise Vicki’s boyfriend Ross, portrayed by Alex Walkinshaw, known for his roles in The Bill, Holby City and Waterloo Road. Alex also expressed his enthusiasm about his new gig, stating: “I am really excited as I’ve had so many friends on EastEnders throughout the years, and I always hear lovely things about it. “The show is top draw drama and I can’t wait to get stuck in. Ross is a decent, hardworking family man, he always puts family first, and he is very in love with Vicki, but it’s not always plain sailing.”
