Privacy NoticeEastEnders has aired the dramatic arrest of Reiss Colwell and Sonia Fowler in the show’s latest episode. In today’s episode, Wednesday 21 August, which has been released on BBC iPlayer, Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) was nervous about her upcoming scan.  On her way, she stops in at the café and Sonia is further agitated when Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) brings up the new deal that Reiss (Jonny Freeman) has struck with Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian) – to take on his debts. Sonia was blindsided that Reiss hadn’t told her this, but she put this aside and left with him to go to the scan. At the hospital, Sonia confronted her partner about his latest secret, but put their differences aside when they received the news they had a healthy baby. It’s when they returned to Walford that disaster struck.

Reiss is pulled aside by Martin Fowler (James Bye) who warns him the police are around. Reiss calmly tells him it’s probably to do with his late wife’s parents and the life insurance. But behind closed doors, Reiss clutches his chest and suffers a panic attack. Once he’s recovered, Reiss and Sonia head to The Vic for their engagement party. But the police crash the occasion and reveal they believe Reiss’ wife, Debbie, was murdered. Both Sonia and Reiss are arrested on suspicion of murder.

Debbie was murdered by her husband Reiss

Fans previously witnessed Reiss, in what appeared to be an act of desperation due to mounting care home debts, seemingly take Debbie’s life at the facility where she was staying post-stroke. Shortly before this incident, Sonia had visited Debbie, innocently adjusting her pillow, unaware that her actions would later implicate her in the crime. Despite their separate interviews with the police, Reiss is released on bail while Sonia faces the grim reality of being charged with murder. A detective informs Sonia: “We’ve got physical evidence linking you to the crime. “You had a clear and pressing motive and don’t have an alibi. I’ve spoken to the CPS and they agree with me. We’re going to charge you with the murder of Debra Colwell.” Cue the doof doof!

Sonia faces spending a lifetime in prison for a crime she didn’t commit

Long-term EastEnders fans will remember Sonia was arrested for murder back in early 2007 when Pauline Fowler (Wendy Richard) was killed. An argument between the two women saw Sonia slapping Pauline, and she was found dead later that day. Fearing it was her fault, Sonia fled with her daughter after discovering the youngster had witnessed the slap. Days later, Sonia returned and was arrested for murder, but later Pauline’s real killer was revealed as her husband Joe Macer (Ray Brooks).

It’s not the first time Sonia has been arrested for murder

Fans have already taken to social media to blast Sonia for her taste in men as she faces life in prison for her fiancé’s crime. One despaired: “Sonia see your life, they warned her about Reiss now she being charged”. Another added: “I’m sorry Sonia has been with this muppet 5 minutes and there has been a million red flags”. A third said: “Sonia being charged whilst Reiss gets released is too funny cus she was warned about the bloke so many times”. A fourth had no sympathy: “Sonia needs this time in prison so she can wake up from delusion. now she’s been thrown under the bus by her fiancé”.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
