Privacy NoticeIt’s been a week of character returns on EastEnders, with Tracy-Ann Oberman reprising her role as the iconic Chrissie Watts and now things are set to take an even more surprising turn in tonight’s episode (which is now available to watch on BBC iPlayer) as Chrissie prepares to leave prison after 19 years behind bars. The BBC soap surprised viewers with today’s episode on iPlayer with the unexpected comeback of Jake Moon, which will leave fans stunned. Fans have watched Chrissie come face-to-face with former stepdaughter Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) in prison, after she was sentenced to a week behind bars for being in contempt of court during Dean Wicks’ (Matt Di Angelo) murder trial. But after the two women managed to reconcile, Sharon agreed not to stand in Chrissie’s way of freedom. After her successful parole hearing, Chrissie was granted immediate release from prison, and was seen making a mysterious phone call. The next scene saw her drive through Albert Square in a vintage convertible car with none other than Jake Moon. Jake had been referenced on screen earlier this week when Chrissie revealed to Sharon that she had been pregnant with their baby when she was arrested for Den’s murder, but suffered a miscarriage two weeks into her prison sentence.

It was revealed that Jake had waited all this time to be with Chrissie, after their attempt to flee the country following Den’s murder back in 2005 was thwarted. The pair were then seen driving into Walford after Chrissie was released from prison. As she stepped out of the sports car, Chrissie looked at the Vic and said: “Just had to see her one last time. Fancy a swift half?” Jake told her: “Nineteen years I’ve waited to get my hands on you again, a cheeky half in the Vic is not what I had in mind. Now get in that car.” “You smell that?” replied Chrissie. “Smells like freedom.”

Viewers last saw Jake in 2006 when he was forced to flee Walford when gangster Johnny Allen’s final words were misconstrued. The gangster made one final phone call, thinking he was talking to Jake and asking him to kill Sean Slater. However he was actually talking to someone else who thought he wanted Jake dead. His final appearance saw him face down a hired gunman but now it’s clear he survived and has been waiting for Chrissie. The cousin of Alfie Moon was believed to have been killed by Johnny’s henchmen in an awful mix-up after the villain suffered a heart attack while uttering the words: “Jake…kill him for me.”

The hunky soap star Jake – who was played by the actor Joel Beckett – first came into the show as a distant second cousin to EastEnders stalwart character Alfie Moon. During the two years that Joel played Jake, he was involved in a number of very high-profile storylines which fans of the show will surely remember to this day. In Thursday’s episode of EastEnders, available to watch now on BBC iPlayer, Jake makes a sensational return by Chrissie’s side after she’s released from prison. Following his soap stint, the 50-year-old actor enjoyed numerous roles over the years. Joel starred in The Bill, Holby City, Casualty as well as a handful of other small roles.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
