Privacy NoticeEastEnders’ Laila Rouass has spilled the beans on her character Ayesha Siddhu’s complex relationship with Suki Panesar. In a dramatic twist, it was Nish Panesar who introduced Ayesha to Albert Square in the episode aired on Monday (August 5), after he uncovered a plot by Suki (played by Balvinder Sopal) and her son Vinny (portrayed by Shiv Jalota) to take him down. The plot thickened when it emerged that Ayesha is the very woman Suki had harboured feelings for many years ago. In a tragic turn of events, Nish had murdered Ayesha’s husband Hardeep, mistakenly believing his wife was unfaithful with him. However, Nish’s cunning plan took an unexpected turn when Ayesha revealed to Suki that she too had feelings for her in the past. This revelation led the two women to join forces against Nish, putting a stop to his latest ploy.

EastEnders newcomer Ayesha unrecognisable in Hollyoaks role 21 years ago

Laila Rouass, while chatting on ITV’s This Morning about her new role in the BBC drama, shared: “She’s smart, intelligent and she’s really kind as well. You never really know and anything can happen. They give you the freedom to develop the character so that was really, really good fun.”, reports the Daily Star. Delving into Ayesha’s true emotions towards Suki, Laila hesitated before revealing: “They’re just friends that’s all I’m saying. They are close friends. Nish is dying so its a lot for her to take on but there’s a lot of familiarity with Suki.”

With Suki’s current partner Eve Unwin (Heather Peace) growing increasingly envious of their bond, viewers are left wondering if her jealousy might drive Suki straight into Ayesha’s waiting arms. After making a sensational entrance on the show, Laila confessed that Ayesha was stunned to be reunited with Suki after such a long time. “There’s a lot she’s had to live with since she last saw Suki,” the actor revealed. “When her husband was murdered, she never got to voice her feelings about what happened, and she really needed to. That’s why she agreed to meet Nish when he reached out to her.Back in the day, Ayesha’s dominant emotion was anger, and in that fury, there was no room to converse with Suki. So, there are multiple layers of emotions now that she’s finally confronting her again.”

Laila previously expressed her EastEnders journey as being everything she’d dreamed of “and more”. “I’ve always had a desire to be part of EastEnders, and when the opportunity came my way, I thought, ‘There is no way I’m passing this up because I have to experience it once in my lifetime’,” she recalled. “It’s the most thrilled I’ve ever been to head to work. Being a part of EastEnders feels like being a part of British television heritage, so it was such a wonderful experience for me.” EastEnders broadcasts from Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC OneStory SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
