EastEnders is about to get a sprinkle of star power as renowned actor Keith Allen joins the cast, portraying the role of Gaz in the beloved BBC soap. In an emotional twist, the programme will dedicate a poignant episode to Phil Mitchell’s journey of healing following his heartbreaking suicide attempt. We’ll see soap stalwart Phil (iconically brought to life by Steve McFadden) navigate through his toughest times during EastEnders’ spectacular 40th anniversary episodes aired back in February. It was then that Phil endeavoured to end his life and subsequently got admitted to a mental health facility. In a powerful portrayal of friendship and recovery on the horizon, our upcoming story has Phil forming a close bond with fellow resident Gaz, who offers indispensable support that encourages Phil to embrace therapy and group activities, breaking down his initial resistance.

Spanning across four significant weeks, this special episode is set to lay bare Phil’s internal struggle, delving into his battle against depression and psychosis indicators. Gaz emerges as a pivotal figure for Phil, guiding him towards the crucial first steps on his path to healing, reports Plymouth Live. Keith, ecstatic about his guest appearance, shared: “I’ve written a number one hit single, I’ve presented Top of the Pops, I’ve played the lead in the West End and I was at Craven Cottage when we beat Juventus 4-1…Could it get better than that?” He continued, proudly stating: “Well, yes, I’ve just guested in an episode of EastEnders… What a joy! And what an honour to be a part of Steve McFadden’s incredibly moving storyline. I may be a resting actor but I now rest in peace.”

Keith Allen’s multifaceted career took off in 1981 with his performance as Heckler in the series Wolcott, making him not only an actor but also a comedian, musician, and writer. The 71 year old actor is renowned for a variety of roles, with standout performances in Trainspotting (1996), The Others (2001), and more recently, The Buckingham Murders (2023), Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017) and the TV series Robin Hood (2006 – 2009). Outside of his acting career, Keith shares two children with his ex-wife Alison Owen, a film producer known for her work on films such as Back to Black, Me Before You, Suffragette, Saving Mr. Banks and many others.

Their daughter is none other than singer-songwriter Lily Allen. The 39 year old star is celebrated for her hit songs including LDN, Smile, and The Fear. Lily, a mother of two, is also the older sister of actor Alfie Allen. Alfie, a 38 year old movie and theatre star, is best recognised for his role as Theon Greyjoy in the HBO series Game of Thrones (2011-2019). His other notable appearances include SAS Rogue Heroes (2022), White House Farm (2020), John Wick (2014), Atonement (2007), among others.
