In a bombshell revelation during tonight’s episode, EastEnders disclosed the true culprit behind Cindy Beale’s harrowing ordeal as the show marked its 40th anniversary in dramatic style. Following the thrilling suspense from last night’s instalment, fans were glued to their screens as Cindy wielded a gun at the necklace holder – stolen on the very night she was attacked. As tensions peaked, it was shockingly unveiled that Ian Beale held the incriminating necklace, although he adamantly denied being her assailant. “It wasn’t me, honestly. You’ve got to hear me out,” Ian implored, with Cindy retorting menacingly: “If you say another word, I will use it Ian.” As Ian struggled to convey his innocence, claiming Peter was the real attacker, Cindy’s distrust remained. She was on the brink of pulling the trigger when an unexpected twist unravelled; Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) emerged, admitting: “It wasn’t Ian. He didn’t try to kill you – it was me.”

A distraught Gillian confessed her motives for targeting Cindy, fuelled by witnessing the torment inflicted upon her son. “I thought anything could happen, his heart but you know what, at least you were gone. At least he was safe from you,” she declared bitterly, reports the Mirror. EastEnders fans were left in utter disbelief with the latest bombshell, with many convinced that Cathy is merely a front, protecting the real culprit. “Why do I still feel Kathy is protecting Peter another parallel of Jane protecting Bobby,” pondered one viewer, while another tweeted, “”Kathy is definitely covering for someone because why would she randomly just admit this #eastenders.” On Christmas Day, Cindy’s world turned upside down when she was struck by a metal shovel wielded by an unknown assailant, right after her secret romance with Junior Knight came to light thanks to Lauren Branning. Following a rush to the hospital, Cindy pulled through only to find out that her locket – which belonged to deceased daughter Lucy Beale – had been taken by the mysterious assaulter. In the latest heart-stopping episode, an agitated Cindy, who held her adulterous hubby Ian as the prime suspect, stormed into the Beales’ abode gun in hand and was shocked to see someone flaunting the locket. She exclaimed “You! ” whilst aiming the gun at them. Throughout the week, viewers had been piecing together clues, many feeling assured they’d cracked the identity of Cindy’s attacker, suspecting it to be none other than her own son Peter Beale clenching the locket. Social media platforms buzzed with theories, with comments like “So it’s obvious Peter’s got the locket right,” followed by others echoing the sentiment, “It’s got to be Peter right? ? ? ” Meanwhile, some seemed more affirmative: “Peter did it lol,” and another chimed in “Was deffo Peter that walloped Cindy over the head.”
