Privacy NoticeSophie, Duchess of Edinburgh proved she’s a good sport as she participated in an extreme drinking game on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk. The Royal was on the estate with her family for the Sandringham Horse Driving Trials over the weekend. Sophie, 59, appeared to be good spirits as she took part in the game a carriage driving event on Saturday, 29 June. She was cheered on by husband Prince Edward, 60, and daughter Lady Louise Windsor, 20, who were both left in hysterics at her efforts. The game involved having to down a drink while driving a carriage, then out the glass down at the next stop. At one point, Sophie didn’t drink her glass in time and was left hilariously driving her carriage while holding the cup by her teeth.

Her mishap caused Edward and Lady Louise to burst out laughing, with other attendees also laughing at the Duchess. Edward also pulled out his smartphone to ensure he captured Sophie’s attempt at the drinking game, and he beamed while filming his wife. Edward, who also shares son James, Earl of Wessex, 16, with Sophie, was seen sporting a white polo shirt and cream trousers, paired with a straw hat. Meanwhile Louise wore a navy polo shirt and a pair of beige trousers, with her blonde hair tied back.

Sophie was dressed smartly in a navy velvet jacket and matching hat, paired with a long skirt and brown boots. She could be seen trying to drink her drink as fast as possible at one point, with a photo showing her with a mouth full of liquid. She eventually finished the course, smiling as she did so. Sophie had been announced as the new president of the Sandringham Horse Driving Trials earlier in the day. Lady Louise, who is currently studying English Literature at St Andrew’s University, also competed in events over the three-day competition, with her mum watching and cheering her on throughout. It marked the first time the 20 year old had competed at Sandringham.

She inherited her passion for carriage driving from her late grandfather Prince Philip, making her eventing debut three years ago. Philip founded the Sandringham trials in 1982 after he decided he wanted to bring one of his favourite sports to the estate. It takes place every year the weekend after Royal Ascot.
