Privacy Notice Sara Davies has opened up about how she balances motherhood with her career. As a Dragon on Dragons’ Den, the founder of Crafter’s Companion and a mum-of-two, it’s safe to say that the 40 year old has her hands full – but she wouldn’t change it for the world. “I’m one of those people. I cannot sit still. I need to be on the go. I’ve always got loads going on in my life but I wouldn’t have it any other way. The thing is, when you love what you do, you just want to make time to fit it in,” she tells OK! in an exclusive interview.

“I grew up in the environment whereby my parents instilled in me that I could be whoever I wanted to be and that I could achieve whatever I wanted if I put my mind to it.” With the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant’s career going from strength to strength, Sara explains that she has always been taught that there’s endless possibilities to what she can achieve. While it may be a “juggle”, she has ways to make it work. “I’ve never subscribed to the theory that women can’t have it all. I feel responsible now to be a role model for women because I do have it all, I really do. I’ve got a fantastic family life, a wonderful career. I’ve got a fabulous home life, wonderful relationship with my husband and I like to show women that it is possible,” she explains.

“It’s hard work, and it’s a juggle, and there’s not a great deal of time for Sara in the middle of that, but I have my cake and eat it. I feel appreciative of that every day.” Sara also credits her loved ones for allowing her to navigate both motherhood and her career. With her sons Charlie and Oliver now on their school summer holidays, Sara reveals how she’s managed to navigate childcare. “I’ve got an incredible support network. Everybody finds their own ways of navigating it depending on what’s available to them, but for me, I’ve grown up with not only my parents on the doorstep, but also my in-laws, so we’ve got fantastic grandparents,” she adds. “It’s that constant juggle and battle of juggling them between us. But you just make it work when you’ve got the determination. I want to have my career and have a great family life so I find my own way to make it work.”

In her newest role, Sara has been named as a Chief Inspiration Officer at Avon to help inspire other women to become their own boss. With the brand finding that nearly one third of women believe that there are barriers to them starting their own business, the Dragons’ Den star is on a mission to help other women thrive. “I have the privilege of working alongside so many Avon women, and every time I speak to them and learn about their businesses, I learn something new. It’s incredible. Every day is a school day,” Sara says. “I’m trying to encourage them and show them how they can help each other. It’s brilliant that they can get the help and support advice from me, but actually it’s a peer to peer network and we can all help each other. There is nothing more powerful than women supporting other women and women standing on the shoulders of other women to become more successful.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
