Privacy Notice The man who tried to assassinate Donald Trump researched the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, according to information revealed by the FBI. Thomas Matthew Crooks had reportedly downloaded images of the 42 year old royal, who is currently battling cancer, onto his mobile phone. The FBI seized two phones and a laptop from Crooks’s residence following the shooting incident in Pennsylvania. Cyber specialists discovered the pictures of Kate when they managed to access the 20 year old’s devices. Previously, the agency had refused to reveal the identity of the Royal whose photos were found on Crooks’s phone. However, respected US broadcaster NPR reported that Kate’s name was mentioned during a phone briefing about the attack with politicians. Other individuals researched by Crooks included FBI director Christopher Wray and US attorney general Merrick Garland. His devices also held images of President Joe Biden and Trump, along with dates of the Republican and Democratic conventions, reports the Mirror.

There is no evidence to suggest that Crooks had plans to travel to the UK. Secret Service and FBI officials briefed Congress on the investigation into Crooks, revealing he had images of high-profile figures including President Biden, Donald Trump, and Kate Middleton. Martin Kaste reported on NPR that his colleague Ryan Lucas was informed by an official present during the briefing: “They briefed members of Congress that he had saved images of President Biden, Donald Trump, even Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales. He’d searched for dates of Trump’s speaking events, as well as the Democratic National Convention. They say they found no signs of any strong political ideology or foreign connections.” Princess Kate was the only non-American in the group of people found in Crooks’s internet search history, with officials yet to determine why he was researching the Royal. Just hours before the shooting, Kate attended Wimbledon, amid her ongoing preventative chemotherapy treatments after announcing her diagnosis in March.

Crooks was shot by the Secret Service just moments after he fired at the former president during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania last weekend. The 78 year old was narrowly saved from death when the gunman’s rifle grazed Mr Trump’s ear and killed one of his supporters in the crowd. FBI investigators have informed Congress that Crooks had been researching an unnamed member of the Royal family online, as well as other high-profile targets including Christopher Wray, the director of the FBI, and Merrick Garland, the US attorney general. The FBI declined to comment when contacted by the Mirror last night. Kate, 42, has taken a break from her Royal duties to focus on her health after announcing that she is undergoing treatment for cancer.
