Privacy NoticeDoctor Who creator Russell T Davies has shared an exciting update about a new spin-off series of the hit sci-fi show. The War Between the Land and the Sea was officially announced at Comic Con last month after being heavily rumoured for a while. Now, the showrunner has revealed pre-production has started as of Monday 20 August as he gave fans a sneak peak at the first script readthrough with the cast and crew. He shared a picture on Instagram of the top part of the script, as well as a sign with his name on it and other cast/crew in the background. Russell excitedly penned: “Day One. The war begins. Readthrough day for all 5 episodes of THE WAR BETWEEN THE LAND AND THE SEA. “So much excitement. What a cast! Thrills, deaths, chases, fish and seven seas of danger. Can’t wait! @bbcdoctorwho @disneydoctorwho @bbciplayer.”

Enthusiastic fans rushed to the comments section to share their excitement for the upcoming show from the Doctor Who series. One Instagram user expressed: “CAN’T WAIT!!!!! Frantically zooming in to try and make out more of the cast.” Another fan enthused: “I never thought something like this would happen. It is really exciting to think that we will be able to watch this.” Somebody else penned: “The new spin off show sounds amazing and epic, can’t wait to see it, best wishes to you, the cast and crew of Team The War Between The Land and the Sea. Hope the filming goes well.”

Yet another commented: “EXCITING!! First spin off since Class, 8 years ago!! Best wishes to all involved!”. A fifth stated: “I hope Ncuti doctor and maybe other doctors may make guest appearances in season 1 and more….?!” While a sixth added: “AHHHHH I’m so excited for this spin off. Can’t wait to see the show and later read the scripts.” The War between the Land and the Sea will star Jemma Redgrave and Alexander Devrient as UNIT’s Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Colonel Christopher Ibrahim. Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw also have major roles in the new spectacular series, as well as it being a launching pad for several newcomers.
