Privacy NoticeDavina McCall has opened up on how she felt filming the emotional new series of Long Lost Family. The former Big Brother presenter said she was ‘deeply honoured’ to have spent 13 years bringing families together, as the show’s 14th season begins this week. “This is a brilliant series,” she said in an interview with TV Times. “It’s about the human spirit. People watch the show to feel warmth but you’re also crying for every love you’ve lost yourself, because we can all relate to people’s pain.” The new seven-part series sees Davina and co-host Nicky Campbell overseeing emotional searches, including a birth mother’s bid to trace her daughter who she hasn’t seen for over 60 years. The star says it’s an “unbelievable privilege that people share this experience with us,” although there are some complicated hurdles along the way.

This series, viewers will see a ‘special episode’ on the stolen babies scandal in Spain, which came to light in the 2000s. Between 1939 and 1975 under the dictatorship of General Francisco Franco, hundreds of thousands of babies were stolen from their parents, who were told their children had died. However, they were given to others, and their birth certificates had been forged. “The birth mothers have terrible stories,” Davina expressed. “There’s hope that some babies may be found, but we’ve also got to think about those children who may never have known they were adopted and how damaging that would be. “It’s complicated, but also an amazing story,” Davina concluded. Davina and co-host Nicky Campbell have a great relationship on and off screen, which viewers saw more of an insight into when she was on the panel of ITV1’s The Masked Singer earlier this year.
Nicky Campbell will return as co-host
Despite their close bond, Davina had no clue it was his voice behind the Dippy Egg, as she said she “didn’t understand” how she didn’t recognise his voice. As well as his singing voice surprising her, it seems like Nicky’s personality overall surprised the star, who was afraid of him when they first met. “He’s clever, funny witted and doesn’t suffer fools. But I know him now as a completely different person from the one I thought. “There’s something sweet and innocent about Nicky. He’s this hard-nosed journalist, but he’s so soft.” Nicky was adopted himself as Davina describes him as being such a ‘sensitive and kind person’. “I have enormous respect for him and love him with all my heart.”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
