Danny Dyer spoke about his marriage to Joanne Mas (Image: No credit)Former EastEnders star Danny Dyer has candidly opened up about his past behaviour, confessing he was a ‘pr*ck for many years’ to his long-term wife Joanne Mas. The couple, who have known each other since they were teenagers, have weathered many storms together. Danny, now 46, and Joanne first crossed paths at their school in the East End of London when they were just 14. Their romance was on-again, off-again over the years until Jo became pregnant, leading her to challenge Danny with an ultimatum: commit fully to their family or walk away for good. Reflecting on his own fatherless upbringing, Danny chose to stay and embrace fatherhood with their daughter Dani, who is now 27. They also share two more children, Sunnie, 17, and Arty, aged six.

Despite their long-standing relationship, Danny didn’t shy away from acknowledging his faults, admitting to being a ‘pr*ck for many years’. His personal life has often made headlines, marred by numerous infidelity scandals. While chatting on Elizabeth Day’s podcast How To Fail, Danny praised Joanne for her unwavering support despite never desiring a life in the limelight and spoke about they have been together since they were 13 years old – a journey that he called ‘rare’. Danny said: “Because if you think about who you was at 13 and who you are now, to grow with somebody at the same time, at the same rate, and then you throw fame in the mix, and what happened with me, which she never wanted, and she came along for this ride with me, both from the same council estate.”

The Football Factory star opened up, saying: “She didn’t really sign up for that, and then, on her course, it f***ed my head up when I became really famous, and I didn’t quite know what to do with it and I suppose she stood by me for a lot of it and had to be very patient with me. And of course, I do believe in the marriage vows and sickness and health and for better or worse.” He admitted the challenges of maintaining their relationship amidst media scrutiny and his own personal issues: “So it’s hard to stay in a relationship for that long with the press attention and with me being a pr*ck for many years because I was, I hold my hands up, I lost the plot for many years.”
