Privacy Notice Things are not looking too good for Gail in Coronation Street, as new photos reveal she will be rushed to hospital next week after experiencing pains in her arm. Gail recently revealed to her children, Sarah and David, that she had a holiday romance in Thailand with returning character Jesse, played by John Thomson, but neither of her kids think he can be trusted, leading to a family argument. The entire family becomes involved, including Gail’s mum Audrey, and following the row, Gail kicks Sarah and David out of the house. Jesse then notices Gail clutching her arm and, fearing a heart attack, he calls an ambulance. It was reported last month that Jesse was written into the scripts following last minute changes after Martin Platt’s storyline was scrapped when actor Sean Wilson, who played Martin, left the show for “personal reasons.”
Jesse phones for an ambulance for Gail
Jesse is believed to be part of Gail’s exit plot, following the news that actress Helen Worth, who plays her, is retiring from Coronation Street after 50 years later this year. John Thomson, who previously appeared as Jesse on the soap back in 2010, recently spoke about his return to the cobbles. He said: “I was a bit shell shocked when I first came in because I’d forgotten the speed of the turnaround so it was an absolute baptism of fire. But everyone in the Platts has made me feel so welcome. I just feel secure and proper looked after. “Helen and I are absolutely thrilled to be working together, everyone’s good company and there’s always fun to be had on set with the Platts, which is great.” Sign up to OK!’s TV newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free
Jesse has returned to Weatherfield to see Gail
Helen announced in June that she would be leaving Coronation Street after celebrating five decades on the soap. She said: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world. I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.” She continued: “I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew. The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.” During her time on the soap Helen, as Gail, has had some juicy storylines, including being married to serial killer Richard Hillman, finding out her 13-year-old daughter Sarah was pregnant and being sent to jail for the murder of her fourth husband Joe.
