Privacy Notice The locals of Weatherfield are set for a shocker in upcoming episodes as a body is discovered and a murder probe kicks off in Coronation Street. As fans of the ITV soap will know, Joel Deering is currently MIA with the belief that he’s taken his own life after facing court for his wicked deeds. Earlier this year, it came to light that Joel, portrayed by Calum Lill, was Lauren Bolton’s ‘secret boyfriend’ and was responsible for her vanishing and suspected murder after he was spotted assaulting her with a chair leg. Fortunately, the young girl survived and made her way back to Weatherfield over the summer when Roy Cropper fell sick following his release from jail after being falsely accused of orchestrating Lauren’s disappearance and assumed murder.

Upon Lauren’s return, Joel’s partner Dee-Dee Bailey uncovered her fiance’s actions and has since joined forces with DS Lisa Swain to take Joel down after it was unveiled that Lauren, who was expecting when she returned to the cobbles, wasn’t his only victim, with Swain’s daughter Betsy also entangled with him, reports the Manchester Evening News. Together, with Betsy’s confession, they managed to pin Joel for purchasing the drugs used to induce Lauren’s premature labour, intending for her to miscarry, leaving baby Frankie’s health hanging in the balance. However, at the end of last month on Corrie, fans saw Joel fail to appear at his plea hearing, leading to a warrant being issued for his arrest. After transferring money to Lauren and his ex-wife Emily, there were fears that Joel might take his own life. Dee-Dee has since been suspicious about Joel’s sudden disappearance, and her suspicions will be confirmed next week when Kit Green and PC Craig Tinker review CCTV footage from a train station car park, spotting Joel and then his father, Gus, near a locker. Gus is subsequently interviewed by Kit who demands answers. Sign up to OK!’s daily newsletter to get updates sent to your inbox for free

In a shocking turn of events, three lads spot a body floating in a river. Craig informs DS Lisa Swain and Kit that they’ve discovered Joel’s body. Kit prepares himself to deliver the news to Dee Dee and Lauren at the hospital, while Lisa shares the news with the punters at the Rovers. Kit returns to the hospital and reveals to Lauren that the post-mortem showed Joel was already dead before he entered the river, indicating a murder investigation is now underway. He proceeds to question Lauren about her whereabouts on the night of Joel’s death, 27th September, while Dee-Dee informs Ed and Ronnie Bailey that Joel was murdered. Later, Kit discloses to Lisa that Joel died from two blows to the head, likely inflicted by a heavy weapon such as a crowbar. Lisa is taken aback when Yasmeen Nazier reveals she kicked Mason Radcliffe out because he had a crowbar, and Betsy becomes curious when her mum warns her to steer clear of Mason.

Betsy gives Mason a heads up that the police are on his trail. Consequently, Mason ditches the crowbar in a bin behind the factory, but Kit catches him red-handed. Meanwhile, Dee-Dee fills Ronnie in on the police’s theory that Joel was assaulted with a crowbar. As the week wraps up, Ronnie uncovers Debbie Webster’s secret plan for a surprise 55th birthday bash for him. However, his cheerful mood takes a hit when Kit and another officer show up to interrogate him and Ed. Ronnie maintains that he was home alone the night Joel disappeared, while Ed asserts he was at No. 3 with Dee-Dee and Michael. Ronnie clarifies that the last time he used the satnav was ages ago when he and Michael assisted Joel in moving out of his flat. At the party, Michael discloses that they actually drove to Joel’s flat in his car that time, leading Debbie to realise that Ronnie had lied to her.
