Coronation Street star Colson Smith has confirmed his final day on set after it was announced that he is departing the iconic soap after an impressive near 14-year stint. Best known for his role as Craig Tinker, Colson has been a familiar face on the ITV series since he first set foot in Weatherfield back in 2011 as Beth Tinker’s son, portrayed by Lisa George. However, earlier this year, Colson took to social media to share that his journey as the beloved police officer is drawing to a close. The announcement both his on-screen mother and ex-girlfriend, played by Ellie Leach, make their exits.

Accompanying a snap of himself in uniform on X and Instagram, Colson revealed: “Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinker’s time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025.” He continued, expressing his gratitude: “I’ve loved every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the greatest street in the world. I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street. I’ve learned pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home”, reports the Manchester Evening News. Looking ahead with enthusiasm, he added: “I’m excited to play out the exit story for Our Craigy. For Me, this is just the end of the beginning. I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. LONG LIVE THE COBBLES!”. Now Colson has taken to social media and confirmed that he had pulled into the Trafford-based set’s car park for the final time on Friday, 21 March. Sharing a picture from his car that showed the ITV building in front of him, the soap star could be seen listening to the Macy Gray track, I Try, as he captioned the post: “The Last Dance,” with a hand making a heart emojis and an orange heart icon.

This touching farewell follows his Instagram Story update on Wednesday, 19 March where he teased: “Made my leaving party playlist this morning…” along with emojis indicating tears and celebration. Colson has openly expressed that one of the toughest parts about his exit was breaking the news to his two dear pals, Jack P Shepherd and Ben Price, who portray David Platt and Nick Tilsley, respectively.

Reflecting on a candid and heartfelt memory during an episode of their podcast, On The Sofa, Colson shared his emotional turmoil: “The hardest bit was walking down the stairs knowing you two were there. I just stood in the doorway of the green room didn’t it, and I looked at you two.” “This was the funniest part, and I think even in my teary state part of me went, ‘What is going on?’ As I’m hugging Ben, there’s a TV that is on the wall mounted in the green room and it was turned off. And I just saw the reflection of little Jack hugging my waist. We had a hug and then I went, ‘Can we go to Nando’s?'”. Colson is just one of many stars bidding farewell to Coronation Street this year. Shelley King, who played Yasmeen Metcalfe, Charlotte Jordan, known as Daisy Midgeley, and Paddy Bever, who portrayed Max Turner, have all already made their exits. Meanwhile, Sue Cleaver is currently filming her final scenes, and Sue Devaney’s character, Debbie Webster, is also being written out.
