Coronation Street’s Lauren Bolton is bracing for more turmoil after her boyfriend Max Turner was exposed as the arsonist behind the fire at No. 8. Since joining the cast of the ITV soap in late 2022, 22 year old Cait Fitton has been on a rollercoaster ride, making a splash from her first appearance and swiftly becoming central to one of Coronation Street’s most captivating plots. Wayward Lauren was most recently cleared of Joel Deering’s murder, following months of abuse from the duty solicitor that led her to flee the cobbles. She returned months later, pregnant with his child. Now Cait credits her Roy and Max stars David Neilson and Paddy Bever for their guidance during this intense storyline. “I learned the most from David Neilson, who plays Roy,” shares Cait. “He’s such a wise person. He just makes you laugh on set. It’s the same with Paddy, we have an amazing bond off-screen. This place is full of people with good advice! ”

In a recent twist, Max attempted to exploit his adoptive father David’s insurance by setting their home on fire, hoping to protect the Platts from gangster Harvey Gaskell’s threats. However, his scheme disastrously backfired when he was trapped in the blaze while trying to rescue his sister Lily. After waking up from a coma in hospital, Max faced the wrath of his stepmother Shona (Julia Goulding), who had identified him on CCTV footage from Kevin Webster’s garage. The young man’s admission has serious consequences for Lauren, with Cait explaining the emotional fallout: “There’s frustration more than anything. We had our happy ending and Max made a stupid decision without thinking of the consequences.” She continues, “Max has done what felt right in the moment and not thought about the consequences. Now, he’s either going to prison or he’ll have to run away. He’s not going to have the life he’s always wanted to have with Lauren.” Off-screen, Cait has faced her own battles, especially with the intense pressure from social media. Known for their outspoken nature, soap fans can be harsh critics. Cait confesses that coping with the scrutiny was tough at first. “I was keen to know what viewers thought about me. I was looking for their approval and, half the time, I didn’t get it,” she reveals. “But as time’s gone on now, I’ve got enough trust in myself to just go on set and try my best.” Lauren’s spirited character has drawn comparisons to another Corrie icon, Becky Granger (played by Katherine Kelly), which Cait sees as a huge compliment. “I always wanted to play a character like hers and Katherine is a phenomenal actress,” she enthuses. “I used to look up to her. It’s the best compliment ever.”
