Privacy NoticeA Coronation Street icon bid farewell to the cobbles after a whirlwind of events. Carla Connor, played by Alison King, first graced our screens back in 2006 and has since become one of the soap’s most cherished characters. The factory business owner has been at the centre of some unforgettable storylines over the years. From sizzling affairs to battling alcoholism, Carla’s stint on the famous street has been anything but dull. Recently, her friend Roy Cropper, portrayed by David Neilson, found himself behind bars. Fans will remember how Roy was arrested for the murder of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) after the troubled young woman went missing earlier this year.

However, viewers were privy to the truth about Lauren’s disappearance: it was actually due to the malicious solicitor Joel Deering (Calum Lill), reports the Express. Lauren made a surprising return, officially clearing Roy’s name. But between his time in prison and receiving public backlash, Roy has had a tough time. He ended up in hospital last week after suffering a heart attack, causing concern for Carla and niece Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher).

Roy was discharged shortly after and returned to the cobbles, as did Lauren. But Carla wasn’t pleased to see Lauren during Friday’s episode (July 19), blaming her for putting Roy through torment over the past few months. After enduring months of abuse due to the allegations, Roy made an unexpected decision to take a break from Weatherfield and visit his friend Cathy Matthews (Melanie Hill) in Scarborough.
Carla has been a huge support for Roy
Upon hearing about Roy’s plans to head up North, Carla decided she was going too – and wasn’t taking no for an answer. She even offered to drive Roy there and mentioned booking herself into a hotel and spa. Carla then informed her Underworld employees that she would be taking a few days off.
