Coronation Street fans faced a bittersweet moment on Monday night as a beloved character bid farewell to the cobbles. In the latest instalment, the fan favourite declared her departure from the ITV soap with little warning, after sharing news of a job opportunity in London during Friday’s episode. Yasmeen had already informed her granddaughter Alya Nazir that she would soon be selling her shares in the family business, Speed Daal. Emotions ran high in Monday’s episode when Yasmeen confirmed her exit plans would take effect immediately, tugging at Alya’s heartstrings. Yet, there was one last twist in store. Waiting at the Rovers Return, Alya was introduced to the new co-owner of Speed Daal. To her astonishment, it was none other than Leanne Battersby, her ex-stepmum, who greeted her with a chirpy “Hi partner!”

That marked Yasmeen’s cue to leave, and the farewells that followed were nothing short of poignant. After more than a decade together, Yasmeen and Alya reflected on their journey, yet surprisingly, Yasmeen departed without any additional fanfare or company beside Alya as she drove away from Weatherfield permanently, reports the Mirror. Actress Shelley King’s decision to exit the show came as quite the shock to loyal viewers, with her departure only recently hitting the headlines after an impressive 11-year stint. Though whispers of her character’s potential goodbye had circulated, the details remained under wraps until the dramatic reveal. “This will be another blow for fans of the show, as Yasmeen is a much-loved character who’s part of the fabric of Corrie. She’s had some huge storylines since she joined the soap in 2014, and she’ll be sorely missed by cast and crew. It’s understood she is leaving so she can explore other projects,” a source told The Sun recently. This follows a string of departures including Gail Platt, Mason Radcliffe and more on the horizon. Eileen Grimshaw and Daisy Midgeley are among characters set to bid farewell soon, while Craig Tinker is also packing his bags from Weatherfield. Rumours are swirling that Colson Smith’s character will meet a tragic end, following the actor’s revelation that he’d been given the boot. Debbie Webster is also slated to exit the soap after a dementia storyline was confirmed. Evelyn Plummer will now only appear part-time, while Bethany Platt has relocated to London with actress Lucy Fallon taking maternity leave. More recent departures include villain Joel Deering and Max Turner.
