Privacy NoticeCoronation Street’s episode on Monday 19 August was a whirlwind of suspense as Dee-Dee Bailey edged closer to uncovering the dark secrets of her fiance Joel Deering. The plot thickened when it was revealed that Joel had left Lauren Bolton for dead, only for her to return pregnant. In a twisted turn, Joel tried to end the pregnancy by drugging Lauren, but his plan backfired as she went into early labour and the baby survived. Dee-Dee’s suspicions were aroused after finding inconsistencies in Joel’s story about a piece of jewellery he claimed to have purchased for Lauren. The latest episode saw Dee-Dee connecting the dots upon discovering the jeweller’s name where Joel bought the necklace. Tension peaked at the hospital when Dee-Dee learned Joel fathered Lauren’s child and was present during the premature birth. Unbeknownst to both Lauren and Dee-Dee, Joel was eavesdropping on their entire conversation from just outside the hospital room, reports the Manchester Evening News. Later, at the police station to report Joel, they were stunned to find him already there, confessing to officers that he had been intimate with Lauren “before she disappeared.” Caught out for not disclosing this earlier, Joel admitted: “Mate, I didn’t want my fiance finding out.” The drama peaked when DS Swain arrested Joel, but not without interference from Kit Green who repeated Joel’s claim that Lauren had taken abortion pills. Defiant in her distress, Lauren wept: “No, I haven’t. I would never hurt my baby.” She continued to deny the accusations, yelling: “You’re a liar, you’re a liar,” as DS Swain regretfully informed her: “I am sorry to do this, but I am going to have to ask you a few more questions under caution.”

Some viewers predicted a fatal outcome for Dee-Dee, while some suspected Kit will aid Joel in evading justice.
