At 70 years old, Brian is facing his own health battle just months after their sister Linda Nolan passed away from pneumonia in January, having battled breast cancer for 20 years. In an emotional segment on Monday’s (March 24) episode of ITV’s popular daytime show Loose Women, Brian passionately encouraged viewers to get regular cancer checks, emphasising that early detection can be life-saving. He explained: “The word cancer is no longer a death sentence, most cancers are treated but the key is please please please have your PSA once a year and we’re going to start a campaign.”

Brian went on to highlight the lack of symptoms and notifications for men regarding prostate cancer, advocating for annual tests: “The problem really is there is no notification for men, there are no symptoms really. “What we are suggesting is getting notifications when it is time for your test and one test a year will do it.”, reports Belfast Live. “If there is any issues in the PSA, they can treat it and there is ten stages to go so what you’re going is potentially saving your life.”

During the show, Brian also recounted the heart-wrenching moment he received his cancer diagnosis, which came after experiencing bladder issues and undergoing two blood tests. Following his biopsy, he shared the shocking news: “‘I’ve got cancer’. The doctor confirmed ‘yes you’ve got cancer.’ “It’s just something in your life you really don’t want to hear. I was completely speechless. My wife was with me, she broke down a little bit.” Coleen then commended her brother for how bravely he handled their sister Linda’s passing while grappling with his own diagnosis. He disclosed that he chose to keep his condition private from the family initially, so they could concentrate on Linda’s funeral arrangements.

The Nolan clan has been deeply touched by cancer throughout the years. Alongside Linda, they also mourned the loss of sister Bernie to breast cancer in 2003, and both Bernie and Coleen have had their personal battles with the disease. In 2023, Coleen revealed her skin cancer diagnosis and shared that she was receiving treatment for carcinoma on her shoulder and pre-melanoma on her face. Anne, too, faced breast cancer in 2000, which unfortunately recurred in 2020. Thankfully, she has since declared that she is cancer free Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 12.30pm.
