Television sweetheart Claudia Winkleman, known for gracing our screens on shows like Strictly Come Dancing and The Traitors, has been open about her struggle with a chronic health condition, specifically myopia. At 53, Claudia’s been admirably candid, including on Gabby Logan’s ‘The Mid Point’ podcast this past December. During the chat, she shared insights into her eye issues, revealing the numerous operations she’s endured. With characteristic openness, she explained to Gabby, who is 51, the extent of her difficulties: “I’ve had lens replacement. I’ve had so many operations on my eyes.” She further detailed her complex journey from severe short sightedness to an eventual shift to long sightedness, which has impacted her ability to read. Claudia described how corrective measures led to new challenges: “I had a lens replacement in my left eye because my astigmatism was so bad but I was minus 16, but that was 14 years ago and then I had a little fiddle with but because I was so short sighted by then fixing it. “I’m now long sighted so I can’t really read anymore. I can with glasses, I’ve got plus 2.5 but I can’t read The Bee Sting with those glasses and that light,” reports Surrey Live.

This isn’t the first time Claudia has bravely discussed her health struggles publicly, as she previously opened up about her eye problems on the How To Fail podcast as well. Claudia Winkleman opened up about her vision woes, saying, “I’ve always had terrible eyesight. Which is going back to the blurriness of the paintings I like and the blurriness of how I really like life to be. “I’ve had a couple of operations since then because I was just banging into walls. But now I wear lenses or glasses or whatever.” The TV star has previously admitted that her poor eyesight has stopped her from doing typical TV host tasks like reading an autocue. Chatting to The Sun in 2021, she shared: “I can’t even begin to tell you how blind I am. It’s embarrassing. I can’t read the autocue. My eyes have deteriorated so badly, I’m not meant to drive. I am doing the wrong job.” Despite such challenges, Claudia has maintained an upbeat outlook and continues to charm fans across the UK with her television appearances. Don’t miss out on seeing Claudia take over from Graham Norton tonight (Friday, February 28) at 10.40pm on BBC One for an entertaining evening featuring guests like Hollywood heartthrob Chris Pratt and the ever-hilarious Rob Beckett.
