During an intimate chat with hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas, Heston was visibly moved as he recounted the emotional rollercoaster he’s been on. In a heartfelt moment broadcast on Tuesday, July 16, he revealed how his wife, Melanie Ceysson, played a pivotal role in getting him the help he desperately needed after noticing “extremes” in his behaviour. Last year brought a turning point for Heston when he received a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, which is characterized by significant mood swings, as outlined by the NHS. In a touching exchange with his wife Melanie during the show, Heston disclosed: “These recurring highs to lows were getting stronger and stronger and more regular.”

As Heston attempted to articulate his experience, saying: “I was on a massive high and had been for several days” he was overcome with emotion and struggled to continue. The segment also shed light on Heston’s battles with paranoia and suicidal thoughts. Melanie detailed the harrowing decision to intervene: “You were a danger to yourself, it’s when I pushed the red button.”

Following Melanie’s courageous act to have Heston sectioned, viewers watching the emotional revelation took to social media to offer their support to the renowned chef. One social media user penned: “Good to see Heston Blumenthal and his partner covering their lived experiences of his Bi-Polar on the One show.” Meanwhile, another viewer expressed: “Wow. Heston Blumenthal was sectioned last year because his bipolar disorder got out of control.
