Privacy NoticeZara McDermott has reached out to her followers asking for advice over a ‘vicious’ habit that causes her sleepless nights. The 27 year old opened up on the impact it is having on her evenings, which is leaving her ‘so stressed’ and ‘frustrated’. The former Love Island star, who appeared on the show in 2018, took to Instagram on Wednesday, 23 October, to explain her difficulty when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep. Sharing how she felt, Zara explained: “I’m going to spend the evening attempting to relax because I’ve got a MENTAL week coming up and I’ve not been sleeping properly recently.

“Anyone got any tips on relaxing in the evening/before bed? I find myself thinking about work, what I need to do, obsessing over hours of sleep, getting panicked, sometimes laying there crying because I’m so frustrated. I needed to get up at 5.45am this morning for filming and I found myself getting so stressed about not sleeping, it’s a vicious circle [crying face emoji] it’s happening most nights and it’s driving me mad because very night I’m going to bed already stressed about not sleeping.” Zara continued: “Then when it get to after 2am I start panicking thinking someone’s going to break into my house (not even joking) even though I have my full house alarm on, alarms on every window, a panic button and loads loads more security measures (to the point where Sam thinks I’m taking it too far). I’ll sit there and obsessively check all my security cameras if I even hear the tiniest noise. “I need to learn to relax in the evenings more, but I think work being hectic doesn’t help. I think sitting on my laptop every night until 10pm and taking it to bed with me probably isn’t helping too. I’m sure so many of you have got in this vicious cycle too.”

After opening up about her difficulties, Zara said she had been flooded with advice from her followers and shared what she had learnt. On her Instagram Stories, Zara, while boasting her pj’s, thanked her fans for the valuable advice and said she had made notes in a bid to make a change. She revealed what advice she had been given, which included; avoiding blue lights an hour before bed, leaving her phone outside the bedroom door and having a wind-down routine, either by reading a book or taking a bath without any screen time. Other advice mentioned included going to bed at a similar time each night, eating earlier, avoiding caffeine and only using the bedroom to sleep in rather than to watch TV. Zara also spoke about meditation, sleep stories and a notebook next to the bed if she needed to write anything down that popped into her mind.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
