Privacy NoticeStrictly Come Dancing’s Pete Wicks has opened up about his past sexting scandal, which led to him receiving death threats and feeling like “the most hated person in the UK”. Back in 2016, while dating Megan McKenna, the 36 year old sent explicit messages to another woman he had briefly been involved with. During a special episode of TOWIE filmed in Marbella at the time, Megan, 32, confronted Pete over the messages, resulting in a dramatic scene. In his new book Never Enough, Pete reflects on how that period significantly affected his life and career. He revealed that although he wasn’t trying to justify his actions, “there was more happening behind the scenes that people don’t know about”, reports the Manchester Evening News. “My ex actually already knew there had been messages, and it was something we were dealing with in private.” “But when someone sold stories on the messages I’d sent, suddenly our dirty laundry was being aired for everyone to see. It all came out when we were filming in Marbella,” he penned. After the “raw and real” episode was broadcasted, Pete said he went from “being loved to hated overnight”. The TOWIE star quickly found himself on the receiving end of death threats both online and in person, with one individual even spitting in his car. “I had people shouting at me in the streets, someone spit in my car when I had the window rolled down,” he remembered.

Pete revealed the appalling level of hate he endured, sharing: “I had people telling me to die of cancer and that I should go and kill myself. I had people sending me videos of dolls they’d made to look like me, hanging them in the street and then burning them.” He recounted a chilling experience during a stroll with his dogs, when someone even threatened his life and that of his pets, saying they would kill him and his dogs if they spotted him again. Opening up about the impact of such viciousness, Pete admitted this abuse was “a lot” to handle, especially as it led to a loss of work before he managed to turn things around. Things are looking up for the reality TV star who confirmed he’s still on good terms with Megan, currently pregnant and looking forward to welcoming her first baby with fiance Ollie Burke. Despite the constant gossip swirl regarding his romantic status, the man tipped to appear on Strictly Come Dancing is reported to be currently single. Adding to his CV, Pete is showcasing his moves on the dance floor on the latest series of Strictly alongside the show’s 2022 champion Jowita Przystal.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
