One Direction star Liam, 31, was tragically confirmed dead on Wednesday, 16 October, after reports emerged that he had fallen from a hotel balcony in Argentina, leaving friends and fans in utter disbelief. Perrie Edwards, who was once engaged to Liam’s ex-bandmate Zayn Malik and shared her X Factor roots with the late pop icon, has cancelled her scheduled appearance on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge in light of the devastating news. An announcement was made by a radio 1 presenter on the show to confirm the cancellation.

They said: “We’ve just had some news on our show that because of the sad news of Liam Payne earlier we have heard that Perrie is not going to be in the Live Lounge tomorrow. She was supposed to be performing but that’s now not happening tomorrow but it will be happening at a later date.” The connection between Perrie and Liam goes back to their early days of fame, with Perrie catapulting to stardom with her band Little Mix in 2010, hot on the heels of One Direction’s surge in popularity. Now engaged to footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Perrie mourns the loss alongside the rest of the music community. Zayn Malik proposed to Perrie in 2013, but the couple called off their engagement in July 2015, just two months after Zayn left One Direction. Despite this, Perrie remained connected to Liam’s life through her close friendship with Cheryl, who is the mother of Liam’s seven year old son, Bear, reports the Mirror. However, Perrie isn’t the only one taking a break from work to mourn Liam’s death. Britain’s Got Talent has also paused its filming schedule due to the tragic news.

Fremantle UK, the production company behind Britain’s Got Talent, confirmed the delay to the Mirror and a spokesperson said: “Due to the tragic passing of Liam Payne, we have decided to postpone the Britain’s Got Talent auditions. Our thoughts are with Liam’s friends, family and all who loved him.”

Simon Cowell has not yet commented on the tragic news of Liam’s passing. The music mogul first met the budding talent when Liam auditioned for The X Factor at just 14 years old in 2008, impressing Simon enough to be asked to return two years later. At 16, Liam initially auditioned as a solo act but was quickly integrated into what would become the global sensation One Direction alongside Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson. Although they captured hearts worldwide, One Direction finished in third place on the show, behind Rebecca Ferguson and winner Matt Cardle.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
