Privacy NoticeTheir nuptials were fit for a prince and princess, so it only seems right that Jermain Defoe and his wife Donna’s wedding venue had the royal seal of approval, too. Cliveden House in Berkshire is where Meghan Markle stayed the night before her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, and Jermain exclusively told OK! this is one of the reasons he and his wife chose it as the place to say “I do”. The former footballer explained of choosing the venue: “We wanted to get married in London, but somewhere quiet, like Surrey, in the country. “I remember Steven Gerard got married there years ago, and he was my ex teammate and manager. And we did some research and found out Meghan Markle stayed there the night before her wedding.”

We knew we had to book it.” Meghan, 40, was joined by her mother Doria Ragland at the hotel the night before she tied the knot with her husband, 37. The Thames hotel has also played host to many other regal and starry guests over the years, including Queen Victoria, Winston Churchill, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Mahatma Gandhi and Charlie Chaplin.

Donna looked stunning in a bespoke lace-sleeved regal gown that was eight-months in the making, with the newlywed telling us: “It was so special. It felt like a fairy tale.” Of seeing his bride for the first time, Jermain said: “When I turned around and saw her from a distance, my eyes just started welling up. I tried to compose myself, but I’m an emotional person anyway.”
