Privacy NoticeJack Whitehall has opened up about his terrifying experience at the 2021 Brit Awards when his girlfriend Roxy Horner collapsed backstage. The comedian, 34, had been hosting the awards ceremony at the 02 Arena in London, when Roxy, 31, had to be rushed to hospital after her sugar levels began dangerously spiking. It was during this hospital trip that the model was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, a condition she has since been raising awareness of. Speaking about the scary experience, Jack told The Sun: “We found out [Roxy] had diabetes the night I was hosting the Brits. She had something called a diabetic hypo and she fainted.

We ended up in A&E on the night of the Brits, which definitely made for a slightly different vibe of an after-party. “The year before I was hobnobbing with Stormzy and Sir Elton John and this time I was sitting in the emergency room of an A&E unit sat next to a Scottish gentleman who smelled of Special Brew” Prior to her diagnosis, Roxy had spent a long time “feeling unwell” before realising and it was only after this hospital trip that she understood why. Last year she spoke to OK! about how her life has changed since this diagnosis.

She told us: “It’s been bittersweet because on one hand I was relieved that I found my diagnosis so that I could finally treat it and start to feel better again but on the other hand it is something that I have to think about every day now. She added that it will impact her “some days more than others,” explaining: “My glucose levels can just yo-yo and It can make you feel really unwell when that happens. “It’s made me terribly forgetful and I have to inject myself with insulin up to 5 times a day now so I’ve had to over come my fear of needles!”

And in 2021, the same year she received the diagnosis, Roxy marked World Diabetes Day by sharing snaps of herself injecting insulin into her stomach and thigh. Captioning the snaps, she wrote: “Today is world diabetes day, and this year marks 100 years since the discovery of a treatment that has saved millions of lives around the world – insulin.” Roxy posed with her nails painted blue to show her support for the UK based charity, Diabetes UK as part of their efforts on #nailingdiabetes.
