Privacy NoticeNicki Chapman has opened up about her striking new look, telling us that “loose jowls” and a dreaded double chin had taken her self-consciousness to the extreme – so much so, the Escape To The Country host would avoid having her photo taken. “We’re all critical of something in our bodies, and for me it was the skin under my jawline,” she told us following her non-surgical makeover. “I hated my neck being photographed before this.” Despite her on-screen confidence, Nicki, 56, said she had become downhearted about her appearance in recent years, but the idea of taking time off work to go under the knife had put her off booking a consultation with a surgeon. Nicki – who was forced to temporarily quit filming in 2019 to undergo surgery to remove a non-malignant, golf-ball-sized brain tumour – explained, “The way that I work for TV and radio, I need to be available all the time.

“So, I can’t have a treatment that’s going to take me out for two or three weeks.” Feeling as though she’d hit rock bottom with nowhere to turn, on a whim Nicki reached out at the end of last year to Dr Judy Todd, one of the UK’s leading aesthetics practitioners, to seek alternative procedures. And after being shown the results from Dr Judy’s past clients – including tennis coach Judy Murray and Strictly judge Shirley Ballas – Nicki decided to undergo a series of high-tech facial treatments, with the hope that they could at least partially improve her dented confidence. Now, just over eight months and five sessions later – that’s roughly one every two months – the former Pop Idol judge admits she feels like a new woman.

The star’s “loose jowls” had knocked her confidence

“Looking at the picture of myself at the beginning of this process, I can’t believe how jowly I was,” she said. “You can really see the lines on my neck as well, but looking at the pictures of me now, I can really see the difference. My jawline, neck and chest have changed far more than I could ever have hoped. I’m absolutely thrilled with the results.” Nicki – who is married to music executive Dave Shackleton – underwent four treatments of Morpheus8 micro-needling to rejuvenate the skin and boost collagen, costing £875 each. The final session was a £1,500 medium strength NeoGen treatment to improve skin quality and reduce laxity and loose skin around the jawline and neck.

Nicki is delighted with the results

She also took natural G Herbal SKIN supplements to help speed skin repair and boost the nutrient levels in her skin. “I’m going to be honest, I’m a 56-year-old woman, so I’m not going to look like I’m 25, but looking at the pictures of me now without make-up and with no filters, I can really, really see the difference with my jawline, the neck and the chest. It is a marked improvement,” she added. Nicki admits that her potentially fatal health scare in 2019, and subsequent life-threatening surgery, had left her with anxiety about having further medical work. “I was super nervous of having anything done to my face,” she said. “But if you have a good doctor like Dr Judy there’s really nothing to worry about. I’m also quite a wimp when it comes to pain, but the numbing cream she put on beforehand makes such a difference.

“If you have that on for 45 minutes before the treatment you can hardly feel anything.” Nicki continued, “You feel a bit of a sensation as the device goes round your face but it didn’t hurt and there was no bruising. My skin was red for about an hour after the treatment but after that it settled down. By the next day, it [the redness] had gone completely.” And to top it off, the procedures – which she added were specially tailored to meet her needs and lifestyle – meant Nicki avoided any downtime from work and allowed her to carry on as normal within a matter of hours. “With these treatments the recovery time was minimal, I would say 24 hours max, and even then it was only a bit of redness,” she recalled. “It’s so good to see the before and after shots.”

And Nicki certainly has plenty to be smiling about at the moment. As well as being delighted with her fresh new look and finally feeling comfortable in her own skin, she recently revealed that her overall health has never been better. Speaking about her brain tumour recovery, the Chelsea Flower Show host said earlier this year how fortunate she feels to have received the all-clear, and that she feels compelled to discuss her experience so others in the same position won’t feel alone. “I decided to speak out after my operation as I felt not only had I received the best care from my local hospital and the NHS, but also that my story may help others going through something similar,” she told The Mirror.Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
