Privacy NoticeFormer EastEnders star Charlie Brooks has reflected on her years of hard partying as she celebrated her sobriety, four years after ditching the booze. The 43 year old actress posted a smiling mirror selfie to Instagram as she rocked a pair of wide-legged khaki jeans and a t-shirt whilst her natural wavy hair flowed around her shoulders. Charlie, who is mum to 17 year old daughter Kiki, wrote a lengthy caption, in which she admitted that sobriety ‘is not a straightforward road’. She wrote: “I had some brilliant times when I used to party. Although it always came at a price.. Sometimes I miss that version of my wild.. but my wild still shows up.. just in very different ways. It’s not a straight forward road, but nothing beats waking up sober on a Saturday morning or any other morning for that matter. Mornings will forever be my new nights out.”

In the comments, her fans offered their support, whilst some shared some of their own experiences, as one wrote: “Couldn’t agree more. 3 years next month. Mornings the best.” Another added: “I watched the sunrise this morning not from the previous night out but actually woke up fresh and was wondering same feelings…. Remembered the fun but so glad to ditch the anxiety of excessive Beer fear.” A third said: “yes I love that!!! Mornings are my new late nights!,” whilst a fourth wrote: “I get it now, 55 days sober you look absolutely stunning btw, LOVE that outfit so much.”

In 2021, Charlie – who has been praised for her body positive posts – opened up on her thought process behind quitting alcohol as she told Fabulous magazine: “It’s been a wobbly road, because I love to drink! I’m very sociable. “But it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Drinking stopped being worth it for me. It made me eat s**t food and the hangovers were taking forever to recover from. I have quite an overactive mind and it was easy for insecurities to creep in.” She went on to say that since becoming sober she feels ‘awake’ and that she’s ‘listening and paying attention’. Charlie is best-known for playing the wily character of Janine Butcher on EastEnders from 1999 to 2022, when Janine went to prison after committing a series of crimes. The actress hasn’t ruled out a return to the soap, telling ITV’s Good Morning Britain earlier this year: “I think I’m out [of prison], but I’m not sure. “The greatest thing is, we just don’t know, do we?”Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
