Privacy NoticeBGT singer Denise Leigh has stunned fans with a glamorous throwback snap from her years performing. On a recent audition show, viewers couldn’t believe it when blind married couple Denise and Stefan, appearing as a duo, took to the stage and blew the audience away. Denise sang, while husband Stefan played the piano. But before she even started, the charismatic pair won people over with their vibrant personalities, with Denise even making light of her 2021 cancer treatment as she quipped that it meant she’d “lost half of her favourite boob”, calling her breasts Thelma and Louise. When it was later revealed that Denise was a previous winner of Channel 4 talent search Operatunity, fans declared that the duo could be winners for their breathtaking performance of Climb Every Mountain, from The Sound Of Music.

And the song has a special meaning for Denise. She previously revealed: “As I was going through cancer treatment, Climb Ev’ry Mountain was always in my head,” she says. “It is a really life-affirming, feelgood song.” The North Staffordshire couple were dubbed by delighted fans as “positive in a world of negativity” and “what BGT is truly about”. Viewers even criticised the judges for not awarding them a golden buzzer, even though they were reduced to tears – especially Italian judge Bruno Tonioli.

On her official website, Denise shared a host of photos from her years of performing, including her victorious stint on Operatunity. And on BGT, Denise confessed that she used to be a redhead – but chemo had seen her natural colour grow back brown. Her original fiery hair was seen in the throwback photos, taken inside London’s Coliseum Theatre, as she donned a green gown.

Posing alongside fellow winner Jane Gilchrist, the pair took centre stage with the English National Opera on the show, as they shared the role of Gilda in a production of Verdi’s Rigoletto. Operatunity was filmed over 20 years ago, in 2003 – which is three years before Denise met her husband Stefan – who hilariously asked her for the time on a train, not realising she, too, was blind. The pair reached the semi-finals, giving them a chance of winning £250,000, along with a slot at the Royal Variety Performance, which Simon Cowell usually makes an appearance at each year.Story SavedYou can find this story in My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
