Privacy NoticeMusic duo Oxide and Neutrino are unrecognisable 24 years after finding fame with their chart-topping track Bound 4 da Reload. The DJ and MC garage double act rose to fame in the early 2000s and are members of UK garage collective So Solid Crew. Oxide, real name Alex Rivers, and Neutrino, real name Mark Osei-tutu, made a name for themselves when Bound 4 da Reload was released in 2000. It topped the UK singles chart, making history in the garage scene. The song famously sampled the theme tune to BBC medical drama Casualty as well as ITV’s The Bill. It also contains samples of dialogue from the 1998 film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Speaking about his decision to use the Casualty sample, Oxide, who is a DJ, previously told The Guardian: “When you’re 17, you don’t worry if using something like a TV theme in a track is cool. We didn’t know anything about clearing samples, but later we started worrying that someone would come after us.” He added: “I phoned the reception desk at the BBC – ‘Excuse me, my band have sampled your Casualty tune’ – but they didn’t take me seriously. When we got signed, the record label cleared the sample.” Later that same year, the pair released second single No Good 4 Me, featuring Megaman, Romeo & Lisa Maffia, which reached number six in the UK charts. In 2001, Oxide and Neutrino released a total of six singles, as well as their debut studio album Execute. The album reached number 11 in the UK charts and featured singles such as Up Middle Finger and Only Wanna Know U Cos Ure Famous. The following year, the pair released hit single Dem Girlz (I Don’t Know Why), which also made it into the top 10.

Their second album, 2 Stepz Ahead, also followed in 2003 and was hugely popular. However, Oxide and Neutrino then didn’t release anything new until 2007, and that marked their final release for a while. After a brief hiatus from music, the garage duo returned in 2011. In 2013, they featured in a documentary exploring UK garage, titled Rewind 4Ever: The History of UK Garage. However, it wasn’t until 2021 that new music from Oxide and Neutrino was officially released. They signed a new record deal in January that year with New State Music and the song Where Do We Go featuring Leo the Lion was released. While there hasn’t been much new material from the garage duo since this, they have continued to perform.
