Privacy Notice The cast and crew of Call The Midwife have returned to filming after the summer break as a post on social media revealed the show is officially back in production for the highly-anticipated series 14, as well as the fan favourite Christmas special. The post included a selfie of stars Stephen McGann and Max Macmillan – aka Dr Turner and his on-screen son Timothy Turner – with his real-life son Dominic. Eagle-eyed fans were quick to comment on just how similar the trio look, with one person writing: “Fake son is so well cast. He and real son could be brothers!” while another added: “But why does the fake son look so much like him? Could literally pass as his real son.” A third shared: “Crazy that! They actually look similar.”

It comes as the cast and crew of the BBC drama are back on set for series 14 and the Christmas Special, with the official social media account giving an update on the busy summer and teasing the return of the show for 2025 with the sweet snap. Stephen along with his partner Heidi Thomas – who is writer and executive producer of the series – had a memorable summer, as they watched their son Dominic tie the knot. A lot of the cast attended the nuptials, including Max, bringing the on-screen father-son duo together with Stephen’s real life son in a heartwarming encounter, reports Wales Online.

The post revealed: “Call the Midwife Summer Recess: Real son meet fake son! Hello all! We are now all back filming series 14 after our customary summer break. It was our annual leave for the CTM team in the middle of the long year’s filming, to allow us to see family and friends, book a holiday, and generally let our hair down! “For Stephen McGann (Dr Turner), there was no time for a holiday. He and his partner Heidi Thomas (Writer & Executive Producer) had something rather special to take care of … their son Dominic’s wedding!” The post continued by revealing that during the wedding, there was a momentous moment that had been “14 years in the making.”

It read: “It was a wonderful occasion by all accounts, and our Call the Midwife partied the night away after the ceremony! But we were amused to receive this particular photograph Stephen sent us from the after-party, because – for those familiar with our previous Call the Midwife posts – it marks a moment that has been 14 long years in the making! “It is the moment when Stephen’s real son FINALLY met Max Macmillan, the actor who plays his screen son Timothy!” It went on to hilariously reveal that Stephen’s “real” son and “fake” son, actor, Max, had always referred to each other as “real son and fake son.” The post added: “Throughout the long filming of CTM, these two have been exchanging pleasantries with each other via Stephen – referring to each other as ‘real son’ and ‘fake son’ But they’d never actually met face to face until now.

“Stephen thought it worth recording the moment for posterity with a selfie – but his look of confusion is understandable, given the fact that his two worlds have now, finally, collided!” The post then encouraged fans to vote for the popular series at the National TV awards and promised that “Call the Midwife returns with a new Christmas Special and Series 14 in 2025.” Dominic is the only son of Stephen and Heidi, who have been married since 1990. Stephen spoke about his son, who was born in 1996, in an interview with The Times in 2022. At the time, the actor said: “He’s doing a PhD and has moved out. We are empty-nesters. Nobody tells you how great it is. “Sometimes we’ll sit with our coffee and think, this is great! No disrespect to my brilliant and hilarious son, but there’s only one person you choose in life — your partner — and she’s the one I chose.”Story SavedYou can find this story in  My Bookmarks.Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.Follow OK!
