Privacy NoticeCadbury have officially settled the debate on whether chocolate should be kept in the fridge or not. Many chocolate lovers can often be divided into two camps: those who like their chocolate with a cold bite or those who like it slightly soft. It’s been a long held discussion on where the sweet treat should really be stored, with personal preferences dictating the argument, but now Cadbury have given their expert opinion.

Following the posting of a list of where food items should be stored created by a Twitter user, a debate was sparked over the placement of the Cadbury bar in the cupboard. Hitting up the Australian arm of the confectionary company, Cadbury then responded: “Chocolate should always be stored in a slightly cool, dry, dark place such as cupboard or pantry at temperatures less than 21°C to ensure the quality isn’t compromised.” Cadbury even include the instructions on their packaging which reads: “Store in a dry place. Protect from heat.”

On the list made by Bruno Bouchet, who has dubbed himself ‘The List King’, he had placed avocados, tomatoes, eggs, soy sauce, Champagne, and butter in the pantry. In the illustrated graphic he then put olive oil, peanut butter, tomato ketchup, coffee, jam and apples all in the fridge. As many people took to the comments to debate over the placement of peanut butter in the fridge making it harder, and olive oil also solidifying in cool temperatures, he tried to explain.

“If you leave your coffee in a bowl – that’d apply. But we’re talking about air-tight storage here. Re: olive oil – it’ll get back to its natural state very quickly. People don’t realise how easy it is for olive oil to go off,” Bruno reasoned. “This is all based on months of research where I looked up studies and opinion pieces from scholars, scientists, chefs and – of course – mummy bloggers.”

The chocolate certainly troubled others with some pointing out that as he was from Australia that surely the cupboard wasn’t the best place. “Chocolate barely survives the car trip home let alone storage outside a fridge on days with temperature over 28°C. Mandatory refrigeration during summer.” Another replied: “I’m sorry, but cold hard chocolate is elite. Won’t hear otherwise.”
